Department Governance /
§  Represents department well, effectively communicating its problems
and concerns to the provost, president, etc.
§  Holds regular department meetings
§  Conducts department business in a fair/reasonable manner
§  Delegates departmental responsibilities fairly
§  Leads in development of departmental goals, then coordinates plans
to achieve and assess the goals

§  Leads updating of departmental curriculum courses, and programs
§  Maintains records (syllabi, class schedules, enrollments, numbers of majors and minors, and other sources of planning information)

§  Recruits/recommends new faculty/staff
§  Communicates effectively regarding performance evaluations
§  Initiates promotion/tenure recommendations
§  Informs faculty/staff of departmental and college plans, activities, and expectations
§  Interacts with faculty/staff in a style that maintains or improves morale and resolves conflict in and out of the department

§  Supervises faculty student advising
§  Initiates recruitment and training of student workers
§  Coordinates departmental efforts in assisting students to obtain employment or admission to graduate education
§  Encourages faculty to attend student functions
§  Oversees effective faculty leadership of student organizations

§  Communicates effectively with administration
§  Coordinates activities with outside groups
§  Processes departmental correspondence and requests for information in a timely fashion
§  Completes departmental forms, surveys, etc. in a timely fashion

§  Prepares and presents departmental budget requests in a timely fashion

§  Assists faculty/staff in submitting proposals for contracts and grants

§  Manages departmental facilities and equipment effectively, including maintenance and control of inventory
§  Monitors building security and maintenance
§  Maintains essential department records including budget and student records
