• Give the instructions for performing air conduction pure-tone audiometry, place the earphones on the patient?

¨  Patient at right angles to tester

¨  Patient has response button (if required by instructions)

• Obtain an air conduction pure-tone threshold for the right or left ear at 1000 Hz (or any other frequency) using a pulsed or continuous tones, record the audiometric symbol on audiogram?

¨  Right (or left) ear button selected

¨  Tone button selected

¨  Pulsed or continuous tone selected

¨  Correct starting level

¨  Adjust HL control appropriately, presents tone correctly

¨  Use ascending procedure correctly

• Obtain bone conduction thresholds?

¨  Instructions emphasize listening for soft tones, guess if necessary, how to respond to tone

¨  Bone vibrator on proper ear

¨  Placed on mastoid, no hair underneath, or touching pinna

¨  Cord in back

¨  Patient at right angles to tester

¨  Patient has response button (if required by instructions)

·  Obtain an SRT for the left or right ear? Adjust the level of your voice?

¨  Mic button selected

¨  Correct ear selected

¨  Correct distance to microphone

¨  Good level of vocal effort

¨  Gain control adjusted (if needed)

¨  Correct starting level

¨  Adjust HL control appropriately

¨  Choose correct words (spondees)

• Do word recognition testing? Based on the SRT you just obtained for the left ear, select the presentation level. Present only the first 5 words.

¨  Correct dB level chosen (40 dB SL re: SRT just obtained)

¨  Correct settings for doing WRS

¨  Correct word list selected

• Calculate the WRS for full or half-word lists (25 words)?

¨  For example, if 3 words were missed out of 25 presented, what's the WRS? If 5 words were missed?
