Where will I be volunteering? / Mainly Gloucestershire and we will try and find you locations closest to you. You may be asked to travel to some other counties i.e. Avon, Herefordshire, as required.
How often will I be needed? / On an ‘as needed’ basis dependant on the number of cases referred to the project and availability of facilitators. You are not obliged to say yes if contacted – you are a volunteer! We expect that you will be offered approximately x3 cases per year from 3 -12 hours flexible work each.
Will I get paid? / No, there is no payment for this volunteering opportunity. You will be reimbursed out of pocket expenses and get invaluable training and experience.
What will I actually be doing?
On successful completion of training and mentoring, you will be coordinating and facilitating restorative justice conferences between offence victims and offenders ensuring that Principles of Best Practice for restorative justice and agreed standards of practice, including timeframes, are applied and upheld. This includes:
  • Assessing the appropriateness of convening a restorative conference and completing risk assessments;
  • Facilitating a restorative justice conference, where this has been assessed as appropriate and where the victim and offender have both agreed to take part;
  • Reporting as agreed on the conference process, the outcome of the conference, and follow-up pf completion agreements
  • Recordkeeping and documentation as required
It is anticipated that you will be asked to volunteer for up to x3 cases per year for approximately 3 - 12 hours per case over a period of weeks. If you really enjoy volunteering and want to do more, this may be a possibility.

5.Formal Disclosure

Because the nature of the voluntary work for which you are applying, this is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders’ Act (Exempt Order 1975). Applicants are therefore asked to disclose any information about any convictions which for other purposes are ‘spent’ under the provision of the Act.

Under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, as this post involves working with vulnerable people, under the rules of Disclosure, we will ask you on selection to complete an enhanced criminal record check. You will be required to present your vetting questionnaire, countersignatory form and original documents in person to prove your identity, address and right to work. The documents will be photocopied, certified and the originals returned to you. You must also bring two passport sized photographs with you; one should be endorsed by your countersignatory. A past conviction will not necessarily prevent you from volunteering.
