LEARNING RESOURCE OFFICER

37 hours per week term time only plus 10 days

Salary Grade Scale 5 points 22 to 25 £20,456 to £22,434 pro rata

JOB DESCRIPTION

Main Purpose:

To develop, support and manage a library and learning resource service for the whole Academy, including management of the computer system and library usage. To create a friendly, dynamic and pleasurable learning environment within the Academy. To develop, support and maintain a comprehensive learning resource base.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the delivery of a Learning Resource Induction programme to support all teaching and learning
  • Facilitate Open Access sessions for students
  • Liaising with teaching staff to ensure the availability of appropriate learning resources for student and staff
  • Processing of resources and stock taking.
  • Promoting and marketing the Learning Resource Centre
  • Maintaining a library of careers informationand providing UCAS support
  • Supporting the Accelerated Reader programme
  • Supporting Peer Reading
  • Reading catch up programmes, targeting specific students through reading clubs
  • Organise theatre trips
  • Library "Themes" linked to programmes of study
  • World Book Day
  • Lead and support out of hours activities
  • Promote literacy and reading for pleasure
  • Create and maintain displays
  • Liaise with the leadership team in order to provide the required resources and equipment to support the Academy’s curriculum
  • Be proactive in improvement of systems and procedures

Line Management

Responsible for any staff and volunteers who are working within the learning resource centre

Range of Decision Making

To make decisions using own initiative where appropriate within established working practices and procedures.

Expected to use initiative in all matters relating to:

  • Accuracy of data
  • Confidentiality
  • Data protection
  • Suitability of content of learning resources used across the Academy

Resource Management

Post holder is expected to:

  • Respect Academy property
  • Maintain Academy inventories as required
  • Ensure correct and safe use of all Academy resources
  • Comply with Academy maintenance requirements for larger resources
  • Ensure that resources meet health and safety requirements

Continual Professional Development

  • Devise, manage and deliver staff training as required by the Academy
  • Attend relevant training courses, internal and external, as required

Essential Criteria

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Experience of working in a learning resource environment

Experience of accelerated reader system management

English and Maths A*-C or equivalent (desirable)
