Create a great day! /
Greetings,
As we make our way closer to EOG's starting on May 24, I ask that you reinforce with your Bronco the importance of not only their performance on these exams, but also their effort and behavior as we prepare for them. At this point in the year, some of our students like to "coast" to the finish line, yet I would like to see them "pedal hard" all the way through June 9 with great academic success, all while demonstrating great character and behavior.
Congrats toBryce McMillenfor being selected to the MLS Atlanta United US Developmental Academy team. The Atlanta United Academy system is fully funded and will provide a clear pathway for players who show the required potential, ability, and desire to reach the first team as a homegrown player.
Don't miss out on a full night of fun nextThursday, May 18when our Art Department, Drama Club, and Orchestra come together for a variety of events. Starting at 5:30 pm and running until 7:30 pm, the Art Team will present a silent auction of some outstanding artwork that our students have created. At 6:00 pm, the Drama students will be doing a variety of performances in the cafeteria. Lastly, at 7:00 pm, our Orchestra will be performing their Spring Concert in the cafeteria. Swing by for one or all of these events.

Becky, along with her imaginary herd of zebras and a green furry monkey, will help each other find the courage to face unpredictable predators. /

Is your child watching the series13 Reasons Why?
/
The Netflix series13 Reasons Whyhas been gaining popularity with adolescents. We urge you tobe mindful of your child's exposure to this show.
The series revolves around 17-year-old Hannah Baker, who takes her own life and leaves behind audio recordings for 13 people who she says in some way were part of why she killed herself. Adolescents can significantly benefit from adult guidance given the detailed coverage of difficult topics such as bullying, rape, drunk driving, and suicide.
We encourage you to engage in conversation with your child regarding the show if they are exposed to it. Be advised that this series is not recommended for youth who have been struggling with depression or have any degree of suicidal ideation. Also, binge watching the series is not recommended, as kids can become immersed in the issues of the main character, and not take time to see alternative solutions. The following points have been offered by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP):
- Ask your child if they have heard or seen the series 13 Reasons Why. While we don't recommend that they be encouraged to view the series, do tell them you want to watch it, with them or to catch up, and discuss their thoughts.
- If they exhibit any warning signs (direct/indirect suicide threats, giving away prized possessions, preoccupation with death, changes in behavior, appearance, thoughts, or feelings), don't be afraid to ask if they have thought about suicide or if someone is hurting them. Raising the issue of suicide does not increase the risk or plant the idea. On the contrary, it creates the opportunity to offer help.
- Ask your child if they think any of their friends or classmates exhibit warning signs. Talk with them about how to seek help for their friend or classmate. Guide them on how to respond when they see or hear any of the warning signs.
- Listen to your children's comments without judgment. Doing so requires that you fully concentrate, understand, respond, and then remember what is being said. Put your own agenda aside.
- Get help from a school-employed or community-based mental health professional if you are concerned for your child's safety or the safety of one of their peers.
Suicide is never a solution, it is a permanent response to a temporary concern. Please remember your child's school counselor is available if you have concerns that he or she may be struggling with thoughts of suicide.
