3. Chairman’s Report
The Chairman, Michael Pate, passed out copies of “Announcements and Reminders for TC/TG/TRG & MTG Chairs”, which he received at the Chairman’s Breakfast. A few highlights from these announcements:
· No one was submitted for service to ASHRAE awards. Michael reminded everyone to nominate worthy candidates.
· Our former section head Steve Duda won the Hightower Award.

· The chair’s training at Orlando was on Sunday and the RAC meeting was Monday morning.
· Roster updates are due at the end of this meeting.
· Michael talked about RPM (Remote Participation Meetings). This concept helps people attend ASHRAE meetings they otherwise would be unable to. These need to be approved by ASHRAE.
· A request was made to review ASHRAE ethics.
· A welcome was extended to new members and visitors.
· Michael reminded us that the TC’s website needs to be up to date.
· A master calendar is available through google.

5. Section Head Report
Dustin Meredith introduced himself as the new Section 8 head. He confirmed that we did have quorum at the meeting, despite our non-quorum voting member not attending. He suggested that anyone who wants to be a corresponding member of a TC to visit www.ashrae.org/joinatc to apply. The section head e-mail address is still . As an update on the Best Section 8 TC award, Dustin said this award still has not been given yet, but that it will be given out soon.
6. Program Subcommittee Report
Michael Pate delivered the Program Subcommittee report. Reviewers are needed for programs. 14 speakers did receive warnings regarding their performance. A new addition is that speakers now need to fill out a form, disclosing their biases. We had no programs at Orlando. Abstracts for the Las Vegas meeting are due March 14. Papers are due July 6. Seminars, forums, or workshops are due February 8. There is still time to meet these deadlines. There is also the option of doing a seminar during our TC meeting if we wish to go that route. We did not come up with any ideas at this meeting.
7. Research Liaison Report
No report was given.
8. Research Subcommittee Report
John Dieckmann provided the report. He announced that no RTAR’s will be reviewed at the RAC spring meeting.
At the Atlanta meeting, we discussed the variable speed compressor idea and a way to express performance to designers. It was suggested by David that we reach out to TC 8.1 since they are the compressor TC. Detlef reached out and they weren’t doing a lot on this topic. Detlef also talked to AHRI. They are working on a standard for variable speed and modulating compressors. The focus will be on air conditioning and commercial refrigeration. It will publish late this year. Detlef will talk to them about how residential refrigeration fits in to see if we want to move that aspect into an RTAR.
Ken Jang is going to look into an RTAR with John on problems with refrigerator gaskets and why it is important. Ken was not in attendance, so John will contact him.
At the Atlanta meeting, new research was proposed to look at thermo-electric refrigerators. Some ideas to consider are the best applications for these, cost vs. efficiency, etc. Yi Qu had the idea and it was asked for her to write the info down, perhaps in RTAR format, so we can see what’s necessary. She has not finished writing up the RTAR.
George asked if a study has been done on condenser coils and how the dust on them effects energy efficiency. George will do a literature search. George also brought up service issues that could become RTARs, such as icemakers and door seals.
John suggested that any potential RTAR’s should be given to him by mid-March.
9. Handbook Subcommittee Report
Detlef Westphalen reported that the Committee’s Handbook Chapter was published in the 2014 ASHRAE Handbook-Refrigeration. It was suggested that our next efforts to update the chapter include linear compressors, thermos electric refrigerators, and alternative refrigerants and that we appeal to the manufacturers to make the chapter more relevant for them. Detlef suggested we begin our revision efforts for the chapter in January 2016. John will read through the chapter to see if any ideas come up. Detlef will enlist others to help, such as Yi, Troy, etc. and find out if manufacturers would be willing to help.
10. Standards Subcommittee Report
TC is not responsible for any standards.
11. Web Site Review
John Dieckmann, the TC 8.9 Webmaster, reported on the TC 8.9 website. John needs to update the website.
12. New Business
No new business
