ASCSU Cabinet Director’s Reports 2/7/06

President’s Report –Courtney Healey

Transfort—We have now given Transfort our permission to use the ASCSU logo to put it on the busses. Our logo will be about 6” by 9” on the white space between the front wheel well and the advertising boards. This is very exciting as we have wanted this for many years and it is now finally happening. In addition, we have asked Transfort to quote us some estimates in regards to how much it would cost to extend service on Route 11 and/or Route 3 further into the night. The idea here is that a great deal of students who rode Route 64 (night route) were using it for these routes. We are hoping there is a cheaper way to give better service at night.

State of the City—The State of the City Address was given by Mayor Hutchinson and City Manager Attebury on Jan. 31st. The whole speech focused on dealing with the changes in Fort Collins. While students were mentioned briefly, we were somewhat disappointed that they didn’t address student issues. I asked a question during the question and answer period about what role they felt students played in the betterment of Fort Collins. Mayor Hutchinson replied with comments about how great student participation has been. Director Przybylski and Senator Baxendale also attended and I encourage you to ask their thoughts on this address.

Dr. Penley—On Wednesday, February 1st Jon and I met with Dr. Penley for our monthly meeting. We discussed the upcoming ASCSU Elections and the need to not only encourage the student vote but also the need to get more students involved as candidates. We also discussed actions we can take to promote CSU students to the community. In addition, we also discussed programming on campus and the upcoming Monfort speaker. If you are reading this please respond to Kim at with the subject line “Presreportrocks”.

City/CSU Liaison Committee—At the committee meeting Thursday February 2nd Director Przybylski and I spoke with City Manager Attebury, Councilman Manvel, Melissa (City/CSU Liaison), Dr. Kuk, and Jim Dolak. I expressed concerns to City Manager Attebury about students not receiving the amount of positive press from the city as they deserve and he is working to remedy this by mentioning pride points at council meetings (such as RamRide’s 30,000th ride). We are still working to change the way students are perceived by the public and city council members. Councilman Manvel noted that we are about to become citizens when we graduate and I quickly corrected him noting we are currently citizens. He apologized, but clearly there is work to be done on this topic. Please look to Director Przybylski to discuss the initiatives she is taking this semester to better community relations.

Elections Committee—Elections Manager Huitt and I have reviewed the applications for Elections Committee and will be bringing some appointments before the Senate this Wednesday. We are excited to get this committee rolling!

Open Positions—I have had many meetings with people interested in filling some of our open positions, so hopefully we will continue bringing folks up for ratification at Senate meetings.

Assistant Director Meetings—Attention all assistant directors! Please remember that each of you is supposed to meet with me as soon as possible. This is a chance to discuss your role in the department, what you’ve been doing, and discuss any concerns you might have. Thanks to the RamRide department Assistant Directors as you all have had meetings with me! You Rock!

Recycle Mania—On Monday, Feb 6th, I met with two students from NR400 who are working to promote RecycleMania throughout campus. This is a recycling competition that CSU is currently engaged in. We compete against schools nationwide and these students wanted student government support. Look out Environmental committee because this could be coming your way!

Gallo Winery meeting—Representatives from Gallo Winery sat down with me last week to discuss job opportunities that they have for campus leaders. They left business information and business cards, so if anyone is interested please see me. They will also be at the Career Fair on Thursday.

Vice President’s Report –Jon Muller

“Bill #3506 – Review of Student Funding Board Bylaws” passed with a vote of 18-0-3 on February 2, 2006 and was presented to President Healey this morning.

The student fee review board heard the budget presentations from Athletics and the School of the Arts Advisory Council yesterday. Items of discussion were student seating at Moby Arena, Student Athlete Grants-In-Aide (scholarships), theatre ticket revenue, and the increase in attendance a music, theatre and dance performances.

I acted as the Director in Charge of RamRide last Thursday evening and it went quite well. We had a high number of volunteers and filled all five cars. I even ended up sending a few folks home.

As everyone should know by now, the elections period is coming up quickly. A reminder to everyone that talk of specific tickets or candidates in the office is prohibited by our governing documents. If anyone is interested in talking with me one-on-one about elections in any capacity (elections committee, pres-vp tickets, running for a senate spot, etc.) just let me know and I would be more than happy to arrange a meeting for us.

I will be bringing a few paper copies of the brainstorming notes from our retreat to Senate tomorrow as I have been asked by a few individuals to do so.

Little Boy – “Mr. Turtle, how many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a Tootsie Pop?”

Community Affairs Director –Courtney Pryzybylski

Leadership Development Director –Abby Pfisterer

The semester has started of strong for the Ram Leadership Team! We are currently starting several projects and are looking forward to lots of hard work.

For the High School Leadership Conference, things are underway. It will be held on April 26, in the North Ballroom and five of the surrounding conference rooms. The theme is set as “Leadership … Is it in you?” Our committees have been picked and the chairs elected. We are all very excited and already starting all of the prep work for this big project. Mentors, this is a great opportunity to work with your Ram Leaders on locating resources and meeting people!

Also, as we already told everyone about, the Ram Leaders have taken on I-Ball! We’re psyched and will begin the planning and preparation for this later on this month. We’ve already received some ideas and suggestions, so if you have something that you would like to contribute, come talk with us.

Don’t forget that our next Mentor/Mentee event will be bowling on February 20, at 6:30pm. Come meet us at Chipper Lanes for $3 games and free shoes! All are invited, so let’s go play!

The Ram Leaders are changing the way their office hours are working. They are now given the option of shadowing someone within the organization or other orgs who hold a position that are interested in. If one of the Ram Leaders asks to hang out with you and see your job for a little while, please show them around!

Last thing, for you Mentors, please please keep up with your meetings with your Ram Leaders. It’s an important time of year as classes are still starting out, and many people are feeling the stress that comes with that. Your responsibility may be to simply be a sounding boards, or it may be to offer advice and solutions. Please adjust your meetings as you both see fit!
