27th March 2015
Dear Families,
As we complete Module 4 it is incredible to think how much we have packed into five weeks.
Community Leader and Parent and Carer day Friday 27th February 2015
Thank you all for the 100% attendance achieved for this very important day. It was an overwhelming success and has shaped the learning for the next half of the year.
Thank you for the extremely positive written feedback that you gave us on the day.
The close working partnerships that we are building are solid foundations for our student’s success.
Chinese New Year – Year of the Goat
We welcomed in the New Year with the team from the London South Back Confucius Centre:Yinong Xu, (director) Huang Li, ZhangQi Long, Li Tingkui, Dou Songyang, Qui Wangyu, Liu Dan, Li Yang and our Mandarin teacher Mr Wang. As part of the celebrations students also enjoyed tea drinking ceremonies and calligraphy and paper cutting classes.
Educational visit to the Imperial war museum Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th March 2015
The students enjoyed a brisk walk military style in their ‘units’ (in keeping with the theme of the visit) to go to and from the museum. The newly refurbished museum was the most impressive and Mr Moore’s questionnaire was most challenging! Please do ask him for a copy if you are planning a visit to see just how challenging it was. The visit really contextualised the learning for this module and students appreciated how lucky they are to have such a great resource on the doorstop when they saw the coaches of students arriving from all parts of the UK[P1].
Module 4 University challenge showcase Thursday 26th March 2015
Nic Vanderpeet Learning Manager from the Imperial War Museum launched our Module 4 University Challenge – Advances in STEM areas during times of war. Thank you to all of you who attended and joined him in evaluating the students learning yesterday. The students and staff valued all of your positive feedback on the first degree style showcase. The smoothies were greatly enjoyed and raised £56.14 for Children in Need.
Official opening of the Academy by MP Friday 20th March 2015
Ten of our students were chosen as ambassadors for the event, a very difficult choice for community leaders.
It was a momentous occasion, speeches were given by Rao Bhamidimarri LSBU Vice President (Development), David PhoenixLSBU Vice Chancellor and the MP Chuka Umunna who co-incidentally had been on question time the night before. A plaque to mark the event was unveiled and will be put up in the reception area shortly. Please follow this link to see the London South Bank University article about the event.
Attendance and punctuality
Our students have excellent attendance and punctuality. In fact there are so many certificates to award for 100% attendance and punctuality that we have had to make a separate assembly to award them all. Thank you for all that you do to ensure your child is punctual and attends regularly.
End of Module 3 and 4 certificates assembly
We again enjoyed celebrating these magic moments and know that you will to when your child brings home the certificates. We also keep a copy for all certificates for each student own celebration folder which are starting to look quite impressive.
Sports day
We are planning our sports day for Module 6 and will publish the date on our online calendar on our website as soon as the date is confirmed by Burgess Park. Students will have 2 PE lessons in module 5 and 6 to prepare for the events and build up a range of athletic skills.
Business attire sale
Just a reminder that the ½ price offers at Whitehall clothiers finishes on 31st March. Details on our website under families, business attire or in-store.

Advance notice – our next professional development day which will be to plan for the new Academic year will be Tuesday 5th May 2015.
