1:-Rules
1.1 / The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2013 -2016 (RRS).1.2 / The Prescriptions of the RYA.
1.3 / The class rules of competing boats.
1.4 / To participate as a Cadet entrant the helm and crew of all competing boats shall have been under the age of 18 on 1st January 2015. Documentary proof of age shall be produced at Registration upon request.
1.5 / All races will be sailed on an "Average Lap" basis with an approximate duration of 30 minutes for the first boat to be finished in each Class.

1.6 (c) / RRS 35 is changed in that the time limit for all races shall be 45 minutes. If the first boat to be finished in each Class does so within the time limit all boats finishing within 20 minutes of the first boat to be finished will be classed as finishers. All other boats will be scored DNF save that the Race Officer may, at his/her sole discretion, record the time of any boat at the conclusion of its previous lap and calculate a result based upon that time. (Note:- The Race Officer is likely to exercise this discretion unless he considers that this may produce an unfair result).
Sailing Instructions
Due to the speed of the tide within the River Arun it may be necessary to tow competitors to and from the racing area. All competitors will therefore be required to carry a suitable tow line of not less than 10 metres in length and 6mm in diameter as a requirement of the Sailing Instructions.
RRS 40 is changed in that an adequate personal flotation device to 50N must be worn at all times while afloat by all members of the crew. Wet suits and dry suits do not constitute an adequate personal flotation device. International Code Flag Y will not be displayed.
1.7 / Competitors should note that Arun Yacht Club implements the RYA Racing Charter and that they will be required to undertake to sail in compliance with the Charter which can be found at the front of the RYA Rule Book (Racing Rules of Sailing 2013 - 16) or at
1.8 / If there is a conflict between languages the English Text will take precedence.
2:- Advertising
2.1 / Advertising will be restricted to Category C.3:- Eligibility and Entry
3.1 / The regatta is open to all monohull dinghies at the sole discretion of the Race Committee of the Arun Yacht Club. A Portsmouth Yardstick handicap number will be allocated to all competitors using the figure published in the RYA publication YR2 where available.3.2 / Eligible boats may enter by completing the attached Entry Form at registration on arrival or, in advance, bysubmitting it, with the required fee, to the Arun Yacht Club, Riverside West, Littlehampton, West Sussex, BN17 5DL.
4:- Fees
4.1 / The entry fee for the Regatta shall be as follows:-4.2 / Two man monohull dinghy / £15 for Adults, or
£7.50 for Cadets
4.3 / Single handed monohull dinghy / £10 for Adults, or
£5 for Cadets
5:- Launching, Registration, Schedule of Races and Briefing
5.1 / Launching of all competitors based at Arun Yacht Club will take place from the beach in front of the Arun Yacht Club dinghy pen at Riverside West, Littlehampton (for directions, see the Informative below). Competitors from AYAC may launch from the Rustington Beach under the supervision of their Club Officers.5.2 / Registration for all competitors will take place in the Arun Yacht Club clubhouse between 09.00 and 09.45 on Saturday8th August. Registration (which will include the allocation of tally numbers) will be compulsory apart from members from AYAC who may register via telephone link through one of their Club Officers and be subject to their own tally system
5.3 / It is scheduled to sail four races with the 2nd, 3rd and 4thraces being sailed as soon as is practicable following the finish of the previous race.
5.4 / The fleet will be divided into an Adult Cadet Handicap Class (Class 1) and a Topper Class (Class 2).
5.5 / The scheduled time of the warning signal for the first start of race 1 will be as follows

5.6 / A race briefing will be held at 09.45 at the Arun Yacht club clubhouse. At least one member of the crew of each participating boat should attend this briefing.
6:- Sailing Instructions
6.1 / Sailing Instruction will be handed out at registration and may also be published on the Club website in advance (at then click on Open Meetings and scroll down).7:- Venue
7.1 / The entrance to the Littlehampton Harbour is located at N50°47.88’ W000°32.42’.7.2 / The racing area will be within a two mile radius of the harbour entrance.
8:- Courses
8.1 / Courses will be advised to competitors by display of a lettered board on the side of the Committee Boat before their preparatory signal by reference to the courses shown in the relevant appendix to the Sailing Instructions.9:- Penalty System
9.1 / A boat that may have broken a rule of Part 2 of RRS shall take a penalty in accordance with rules 44.1 and 44.2.10:- Scoring
10.1 / The Low Points System of appendix A of the RRS will apply.10.2 / Two races are required to be completed to constitute a series.
10.3 / When fewer than 3 races have been completed a boat's series score will be the total of her race scores.
10.4 / When 3 or 4 races have been completed a boat's series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
11:- Support Boats
11.1 / Support boats will not be permitted to give guidance or instruction to competitors whilst racing other than when effecting a rescue and/or for reasons of safety.12:- Berthing
12.1 / All competing dinghies shall berth as directed by the regatta beachmaster at the Arun Yacht Club other than members of AYAC whose dinghies may be berthed at their Rustington compound.13:- Prizes
13.1 / Prizes will be awarded as follows:-13.2 / An award for the Adult, Cadet and Topper boats with the 3rd lowest score overall subject to an entry in each category exceeding 9 boats.
13.3 / An award for the Adult, Cadet and Topper boatswith the 2nd lowest score overall subject to an entry in each category exceeding 5 boats.
13.4 / An award for the Adult, Cadet and Topper boatswith the lowest score overall for each category.
13.5 / Other Awards may be made at the discretion of the race committee.
13.6 / The Prizegiving will take place in the dinghy pen as soon as possible after the end of the regatta.
14:- Risk Statement
14.1 / Rule 4 of the RRS states “The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone.”Sailing is by its nature an unpredictable sport and therefore inherently involves an element of risk. By taking part in the event, each competitor agrees and acknowledges that:
(a)They are aware of the inherent element of risk involved in the sport and accept responsibility for the exposure of themselves, their crew and their boat to such inherent risk whilst taking part in the event.
(b)They are responsible for the safety of themselves, their crew, their boat and their other property whether afloat or ashore.
(c)They accept responsibility for any injury, damage or loss to the extent caused by their own actions or omissions.
(d)Their boat is in good order, equipped to sail in the event and they are fit to participate.
(e)The provision of a race management team, patrol boats and other officials and volunteers by the event organiser does not relieve them of their own responsibilities.
(f)The provision of patrol boat cover is limited to such assistance, particularly in extreme weather conditions, as can be practicably provided in the circumstances.
15:- Insurance
15.1 / Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third party liability insurance with a minimum cover of £2,000,000 per event or the equivalent.INFORMATIVES
(a)The Arun Yacht Club is located on the west bank of the River Arun, on the opposite side to the town of Littlehampton. Access is via Ferry Road, which is a turning south off the A259 Bognor Road approximately half a mile to the west of the bridge over the River Arun. Proceed along Ferry Road until almost the end and take the turning right into Rope Walk. Proceed along Rope Walk and through the narrow entrance, passing alongside the golf course and up a ramp where the Club and its car park will be found immediately on your left hand side.
(b)Access to and egress from the River Arun is restricted by the bar at the mouth of the river which can only be crossed by craft with fixed keels or rudders at certain states of the tide. Details will be given at the briefing.
