Anesthesia Interest Group Constitution

Article I-Name, Purpose, and non-discrimination policy

Section 1: The Anesthesia Interest Group at The Ohio State University College of Medicine

Section 2: The purpose of AIG is to provide all medical students with the opportunity to learn about anesthesiology. The leaders of AIG will provide mentorship to the members, assist in shadowing and research opportunities, and guide members in the application process.

Section 3: The organization and its members will not discriminate against any individuals for any reasons of age, color, disability, gender, gender expression, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, or veteran status.

Article II: Membership qualifications and categories

Voting membership is limited to members of The Ohio State University enrolled students. Honorary membership may be granted to faculty, alumni, professionals, etc. The group must be led by currently enrolled students.

Article III: Organizational Leadership

There will be one or two co-presidents that lead the AIG. They will be appointed either by the co-presidents before them, or by a group vote of the club’s membership. The rest of the group executives may be elected by the co-presidents or by a membership vote. These executives will include a treasurer, vice president, and secretary. The treasurer will have the role of ordering food for meetings and getting reimbursed for any expenses. The secretary will have the role of keeping track of membership and sending out advertisement for events. The vice president will assist the co-presidents. Other possible optional leadership roles include shadowing, research, and workshop coordinators. Each term will last for one year.

Article IV: Method of Selecting and/or Removing Officers and Members

Officers of the club will be selected by the co-presidents. The new co-presidents will be selected by the previous co-presidents. The co-presidents may also decide to hold an election for a membership vote. If any officer is not completing their duties according to the constitution , the entire executive board must agree to remove the officer.

Article V: Advisors

The advisors of the club will be leaders of the anesthesiology department, including the Medical Student Director and/or Residency Director. They will attend advisor meetings, answer any questions of the group, and provide resources for meetings and workshops.

Article VI: Meetings

There will be at least two meetings each year, including an introductory meeting and a post-match panel meeting. Other additional meetings will take place during workshops.

Article VII: Method of Amending Constitution

Proposed amendments should be in writing. They shall be read at a general meeting in which they are proposed. A 2/3 vote must exist to have the constitution amendment approved by the group.

Article VIII: Method of Dissolution of the Organization

If the group decides that there is no longer interest, than it shall end. There should never be any assets or debt at the end of any academic year.
