Article I: Formal Name

The formal name of The Ohio State University parkour club will be Parkour Club.

Article II: Club Purpose

The parkour club at Ohio State will seek to be the interest group for individuals and communities interested in parkour. The club seeks to provide a place for enthusiast to share their mutual interest, and to work cooperatively with The Ohio State University and other parkour organizations across the country and around the world to further the development of parkour as a discipline on an institutional and organizational level. The club will seek to promote the understanding of parkour through a variety of media and the promotion of seminars by parkour professionals and instructors. Further, the club will host indoor classes to promote parkour as a gateway to physical fitness, mental health, and overall well-being. Lastly, the club will continue towork with Ohio State to foster the adoption of parkour into the university’s athletic and student programs.

Article III: Purpose Statement

To Empower, To Engage, and To Teach Through the Art of Movement

Article IV: Club Membership

Section 1:

The club members strive to espouse values of mutual and personal respect. All members must abide by the spirit and letter of the club constitution, and must read and sign a copy of the constitution to become a full member of the club.

Section 2:

All members must pay dues as assessed by the club officers. The club officers may suspend any member who has failed to pay their dues. The club officers shall notify club members of any required financial payments no less than seven days prior to the established due date.

  1. All club members are required to pay dues per month for each month that they retainmembership.
  2. Membership dues will not change mid month. Officers may make changes to the following month’s dues.

Section 3:

All members will be required to sign a contract acknowledging their obligation to pay non-refundable dues and follow the laws contained within this Constitution. This constitution shall act as that contract.

Section 4:

Any general member may be removed from the club by a majority vote of club officers. Grounds for removal are subject to the club officers. The removal process for general members will be as follows:

  1. Member removal suggestion must be brought to the attention of, or made by, a club officer.
  2. The case for removal will be presented before the officers at the following officer meeting.
  3. Officers will either vote for or against the removal of the member.

Article V: Club Governance

Section 1:

The club will be managed by the club officers.

A. Club Officers:

The club officers will consist of the President, Vice Presidents, Secretary, and Treasurer. The club officers will be elected to office. Their authority to lead the club and over club members is derived from their elected office.

B. Creation of Administrative Offices:

Only the president has the power to create new administrative offices. It is the president’s responsibility to designate the newly created office’s name and the duties of that office. From the time that an office is created until the next election date that office is to be filled by a club member appointed by the President.

C. Removal of Officers:

If an officer of the club fails to fulfill the duties of their office then they may be removed from office. An officer may be formally impeached by either the President or by majority vote of the other officers. If an officer is impeached then they will be summoned to a closed disciplinary hearing by the other officers to be held no later than three days after impeachment. If removed from office a member is not necessarily removed from the club.

D. Suspension of Officers:

If an officer of the club fails to fulfill the duties of their office then they may be suspended from office. An officer may suspend either by order of the club President or by majority vote of the other officers. The duration and conditions of the suspension shall be determined by the members of the other officers on a case by case basis.

E. Length of Terms:

All club officers will serve their term for one year. If an officer wishes to resign from office they must provide a one month notice beforehand so that another club member may be appointed to the office for the remainder of the year.

F. Committees

  1. Purpose: Help club officers with organizing and running the club
  2. The President may form committees.
  3. The President may appoint club members to committee positions.
  4. Other officers can request a vote on proposed committee members.
  5. Majority of officers must then approve committee member in question.
  6. Officers and Committee members constitute governing council.
  7. Purpose of a committee need to be explicitly stated (and written) before it is formed. The committee’s name, and purpose statement as decided on by the President will appear on documents the committee presents in club meetings.
  8. The President may remove a club member from a committee.
  9. Club Officers may request that the removal of a club member from a committee may be brought to a vote. Three votes from club officers are needed to override the removal from a committee.
  10. One member is appointed committee head. Committee head is responsible for organizing the committee’s information to be presented.

Section 2:

Elections for all officers for the next year will be held in the spring of the previous year at a time decided upon by the current club officers that is best for members of the club. Any newly created offices after the previous years Election Day will also hold their elections on that day. All candidates, excluding those for President, must nominate themselves in a letter to the President at least one week prior to elections. Candidates may only nominate themselves for only one office. Nominees will be publicly announced no sooner than four days prior to elections.

Section 3:

  1. The President, or acting President, will run the election.
  2. Voting for offices will be done one office at a time.
  3. The President will designate those who distribute and collect ballots during election night.
  4. Two members of the club designated by the President will count the ballots after votes for all offices have been cast.
  5. A majority vote is required to take office.
  6. A recount will be required for all ballots.
  7. Recounts will be done by current officers not running for re-election.
  8. If there are an equal number of votes for two or more candidates, there will be a re-vote between only the two majority vote holding candidates.
  9. If the re-vote does not decide the election, the officers will make the final decision.
  10. The President will announce the close of the election.
  11. The newly elected officers will be announced by the following day by noon.

Section 4:

  1. All candidates must be dues-paying members and be current on all dues, fees and fines or have been granted immunity from the Treasurer at the time of the election.
  2. Candidates may run for only one office.
  3. If an office is empty after the elections, the acting President will be required to appoint a club member to fill the office.

Section 5:

  1. By the fifth Friday of spring quarter the Faculty Advisor must receive all Presidential nominations.
  2. Each of the officers may nominate one person and write a letter of recommendation for an eligible club member other than him or herself.
  3. Candidate must possess in-depth knowledge of presidential position, officer meetings, etc.

Section 6:

A. Club Secretary

The Secretary is in charge of communications within Parkour at Ohio State University for the Club’s activities beyond The Ohio State University and has the following specific responsibilities:

  1. Handle correspondences with companies.
  2. Attend SOURCE meetings
  3. Maintain Club archives
  4. Complete other duties as assigned by the President of the Club

B. Treasurer

The Treasurer is in charge of the Club’s financial well being, managing Club and member accounts and budget. The Treasurer also has the following specific responsibilities:

  1. Must go through treasurer training.
  2. Keep both internal and external records of all club financial transactions.
  3. Preparing the annual budget for The Ohio State University.
  4. Determine and maintain the Club’s up-to-date financial position
  5. Managing accounts, club financial obligations and enforcing members’ payments
  6. Prepare and present financial audits to the club officers upon request
  7. Complete Other duties as assigned by the President of the Club

C. Vice President

The Vice President is an aid to the President, and acting President when the President is not available:

  1. When President is not available, Vice President at Large is the acting President.
  2. Work closely with the President to help with the leadership of club, and the delegation of power.
  3. Handle correspondences when requested by President.
  4. Complete other duties assigned by the President of the Club
  5. Work with President to plan and organize all media events.
  1. Work with members to create and execute recruiting plans.
  2. Design and disseminate all flyers and other external communications materials
  3. Promotion of Club events
  4. Complete other duties as assigned by the President of the Club

E. President

The President has responsibility for oversight of the club, its officers and the delegation of its duties. With a simple majority of the Executive Board, the President has the prerogative to change any of the Officer’s responsibilities in accordance with the constraints of the Constitution and the needs of the Club at a given time. The President also has the following specific responsibilities:

  1. Develop and maintain Club goals in accordance with Officers, The Ohio State University and its community.
  2. Run meetings
  3. Maintain good standing among the Ohio State University Department of Recreational Sports and The Ohio State University
  4. Oversight of any committee formed by Parkour at Ohio State University
  5. Oversight of internal and external Club relations
  6. Oversight of Club logistics, events and travel
  7. Oversight of Club spending, budgeting and fiscal management
  8. Oversight of Club communications
  9. Complete other duties as needed

F. Assignment of duties

Specific duties listed for each position are the minimum required for that position. Duties can be exchanged with the approval of the President.

Section 7:

A. Club Meeting

Club meetings are formal meetings that shall be open to all club members

B. Disciplinary Hearing

Disciplinary Hearings are closed hearings heard by the club officers in event of any infraction upon the clubs Constitution.

C. Gathering

Gatherings are social events sponsored by the Parkour Club

Article VI: Member Conduct

Discrimination against any individual based upon protected status, which is defined as age, color, disability, gender identity or expression, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or veteran status is prohibited. Members must abide by the letter and spirit of the club constitution.

Article VII: Non-Profit

No part of the net earnings of the club shall inure to the benefit of, or be distributable to its members, trustees, officers, or other private persons, except that the club shall be authorized and empowered to pay reasonable compensation for services rendered and to make payments and distributions in furtherance of the purposes set forth in Article II hereof. No substantial part of the activities of the club shall be the carrying on of propaganda, or otherwise attempting to influence legislation, and the corporation shall not participate in, or intervene in (including the publishing or distribution of statements) any political campaign on behalf of or in opposition to any candidate for public office. Notwithstanding any other provision of these articles, the corporation shall not carry on any other activities not permitted to be carried on (a) by a corporation exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or the corresponding section of any future federal tax code, or (b) by a corporation, contributions to which are deductible under section 170(c)(2) of the Internal Revenue Code, or the corresponding section of any future federal tax code. Notwithstanding any other provision of these articles, this club shall not, except to an insubstantial degree, engage in any activities or exercise any powers that are not in furtherance of the purposes of this club.”

Upon the dissolution of the club, assets shall be distributed for one or more exempt purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or the corresponding section of any future federal tax code, or shall be distributed to the federal government, or to a state or local government, for a public purpose. Any such assets not so disposed of shall be disposed of by a Court of Competent Jurisdiction of the county in which the principal office of the corporation is then located, exclusively for such purposes or to such organization or organizations, as said Court shall determine, which are organized and operated exclusively for such purposes.

Article VIII: Constitution Maintenance

Section 1:

Any amendment to this constitution must be approved by a two-thirds majority vote of the active, dues paying membership.

Section 2:

The club officers will do a full analysis of the constitution before the end of the school year.

Section 3:

Amendments to the constitution can be proposed at any time by any club member. The argument for the proposed amendment will be heard at the next club meeting and a decision shall be reached by the end of that meeting.
