Homework: I will be sending homework with your child Monday – Thursday. Homework may be a review sheet, family activity, or reading. When reading please allow your child to read the book first on their own and then you read the book aloud to them. Even when reading a book is not the homework for the night, be sure your child has the opportunity to read to someone every day of the week. Things such as practicing sight words, spelling words, Lexia, and Dreambox will be included in the nightly folder. Homework is very important because the child is practicing what is being learned at school

I

Independence is a goal for students because it builds self-esteem and self-confidence. 1st graders are very capable of doing many things on their own and I encourage them to do as much as they can for themselves in the classroom. Please work on the following self-help skills at home with your child: cutting, typing, etc…

I encourage you to read with your child and have your child read with you every night. I recommend 20 minutes every week night. Reading is VERY important in 1st grade.

J

Just send a note with your child if you need to change buses or any afternoon routine.

JUST send a note with your child in his/her backpack if you need to reach me or have concerns. Of course EMAIL is still the best way. Your child will be asked to put all notes from home in my “NOTE” bucket and they will be addressed in a timely manner.

K

Keep Updated- Read the classroom newsletter every week and check the folder every day for the other notes and information.

L

Library- Our class will be visiting the Library every Wednesday. Your child will check out a book when we visit the library and return it within the following week.

No LUNCHES will be heated up for students.

Check carefully the LUNCH menu every day so that your child will eat items served that day.

M

Money: When sending money to school please make sure it is in a sealed envelope with the following information on the outside of the envelope: Child’s name, what the money is for, and the amount of money inside of the envelope. If you are sending money for more than one thing, please put it in separate envelopes. Remind your child to give the envelope to me.

N

Newsletter- A weekly newsletter will be sent home on Fridays to keep you informed about what is happening in our class. Please keep this in a location where you can stay informed throughout the week.
