Aug 19-20. Lean Horse 100 mi, 50 mi, 50 km (+ shorter races). Custer SD. On the Mickelson rail-trail through the Black Hills.

Aug 19-20. Leadville 100. Leadville CO. 287 finishers out of 606 entries, including ARR member Michael Brennand in 29:41:32. Winners Ian Sharman and Devon Yanko. 12 of the 14 competitors still in the Grand Slam finished but the two who didn’t completed the Old Dominion 100 back in June, so can still complete the slam with a finish at Wasatch Front (Sept 8/9).

Sept 2. Ultra Santa Fe 50 mi, 50k (plus 2- and 4-person 50 mile relays, 13 miler and uphill mile). 12 finishers in the 50 mile with Matt Preslar as repeat winner in 10:53:20 (new record); 59 finishers in 50km (compared to 21 in 2016) with Michelle Hummel the overall winner in 5:58:30, also a course record.

Looking ahead

Sept 8-9. Run, Rabbit, Run 100 mi & 50 mi, Steamboat Springs CO. $12,500 prize purse to the winners of the ‘Hare’ division of 100-mile race. Gail Leedy entered in the ‘Tortoise’ division of 100 miler (36-hour limit).

Sept 8-12. Tahoe 200. Homewood, CA. A complete loop around the lake on the California/Nevada border. Actual distance 205.5 miles; time allowed 100 hours. Bobby Keogh, who completed this race last year in 99:07:32 is back in the field this year.

Sept 29-30. The Bear 100. Logan, UT. This year a point-to-point from Logan to Bear Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. 22,518 ft of climb. Field capped at 350 runners; 36 hour time limit. Local runner Chris Baca entered.

Sept 30. Mt Taylor 50 km. Grants, NM. Registration opened on UltraSignup on Feb 1 and the field is full at 175 entrants. This race is a trail race in the ARR race series.

Oct 28-29. Javelina Jundred, McDowell Mountain Park, Fountain Hills, AZ. 100 mi and 100 km. The annual Halloween party in the Arizona desert. Dennis Drey, Cliff Matthews, Ian Maddieson among those entered in 100 miler.

Nov 4. Deadman Peaks Trail Runs, Cuba NM. 50 mi (as well as marathon and 30 km) on the Continental Divide Trail. Registration open on UltraSignup.
