Minutes of Board of Directors Retreat

Kelly Hayes welcomed the board members and led in the ice breaker activity.

Mike Mertens presented the Membership Report as of April 19, 2011.

Mike Mertens presented the Financial Report for the period ending March 31, 2011. Richard Stipe made a motion to approve the minutes. Freeman Wish seconded. Motion passed.

Kelly Hayes presented the March 4, 2011 minutes. Jeff Altemus made a motion to approve the minutes as presented. Shawn Higginbotham seconded. Motion passed.

Kelly Hayes led in an activity to assist in the review of the number of AASBO members by district across the state and also review the AASBO Constitution.

Jeff Altemus led in a discussion on the Rules Governing Athletic Revenue and Expenditures in Public Schools.

Nathan Barber presented a packet of information related to SASBO including a tentative schedule of the SASBO Conference at Beau Rivage, Biloxi, MS on April 22-25, 2012.

Mike Mertens presented the AAEA Calendar of Events for the 2011-12 school year for information.

Kelly Hayes presented the AASBO Professional Certification Program listing the CASBO classes available to participants. Also discussed was raising the registration fees for CASBO registration to $30. for members, $45. for non-members and in addition, designating $5. from each registrant to go to AAEA. Shawn Higginbotham made a motion to make the above changes. Richard Stipe seconded. Motion passed.

Mike Mertens presented information on the success of the C. B. Garrison Scholarship sponsored by AAEA and shared ideas on how AASBO could begin offering a scholarship. An AASBO Scholarship Screening Committee was formed to review scholarship applications with the following individuals: Jeff Altemus, Richard Stipe, Bonnie Colville, Kelly Hayes, and Pat Tapley. Jeff Altemus made a motion to award a $1,000. non-recurrent scholarship to a graduating legal dependent of an AASBO member. Nathan Barber seconded. Motion passed.

Mike Mertens presented information on ACT 871 related to 40% Pullback, ACT 1220 related to Categorical Funding, and District Legal Balances.

Shawn Higginbotham made a motion to adjourn at 12:30 p.m. Jeff Altemus seconded. Motion passed
