Arizona ACDIS Local Chapter Meeting

Minutes

  • The initial meeting of the Arizona Chapter opened with a “Meet & Greet” at Paradise Bakery & Café on Indian School Road in Old Town Scottsdale.

After signing in, attendees purchased dinner, brought it back to the meeting room to meet and chat with fellow CDIS.

The meeting was well attended with 22 CDIS’ from Scottsdale Healthcare, Mayo, Phoenix Children’s, John C Lincoln, St Joseph’s, Banner Thunderbird, Banner Baywood, St Luke’s, Chandler Regional and Maricopa Medical Center. A case manager from St Joe’s was a guest.

  • After about an hour of chatting, the meeting was hosted by Gloria Richardson, RN CDIS, Scottsdale Healthcare. Open discussion was held about future meetings.

It was unanimously decided to meet quarterly with the next meeting January

2013. Wednesday evening seemed to be a good day for all. The time will start

a little later, likely 6:00pm to allow for travel during commute time. All agreed a

face to face meeting would offer better communication than a teleconference.

The meeting “Host” will rotate with each meeting. The Host will pick the

location. Ideally the location will vary from west to east, south to north to help even out the commute distance. It was also decided to have a ‘topic of discussion’ for each meeting. Some suggestions were: ICD 10, Queries, Policies,

Job Descriptions, and on occasion to have a special ‘speaker’ on a given topic.

  • Three volunteered to be contacts for the ACDIS National quarterly conference calls with Melissa Varnavas, Associate Director ACDIS: Debbie Koole, John C Lincoln;LeeAnne Landon, Scottsdale Healthcare; Brenda Peirce, St Joseph’s. Gloria Richardson, Scottsdale Healthcare will remain as the primary and fourth contact.
  • Round Table/Open Discussion was held at the end of the meeting. The next meeting will

be Wednesday, January 13, 2013. It will be hosted by Debbie Koole, John C Lincoln. Everyone was encouraged to bring a co-worker to help grow our membership. Several attendees stated they had contacts with Flagstaff, Tucson, Iasis, and Abraso Heath Systems and will supply contact information to Gloria. The topics for discussion for January will be: Electronic Queries and

Improving the Relationship between CDIS and Coding.

  • A Door Prize drawing was held for items donated by Melissa Varnavas/ACDIS.

A big “Thank You” to Meslissa for providing handouts and goodies for our first meeting during CDI Week. We also thanked Paradise Bakery for waiving the room rental fee.
