  1. Mission Statement: There should be a mission statement that reflects our intent and purpose of coming together (e.g., as summarized in our internet yahoo group).
  2. Preamble: There should be a preamble that leads to the resolution and agreement for the formation of the association.
  3. Membership: Qualification for membership should be clearly defined. Membership should be further defined either by family (married with or without children), single adult of 21 years or older, or independent undergraduate/graduate student of 21 years or older for no more than four years (optional). People who are not from the target communities but wish to subscribe to the objectives and programs of the association may be allowed to become members under the appropriate membership category.
  4. Discipline: Provisions for disciplinary actions, mediations should be in place to promote good conduct of behavior among us.

Lolo Cecilia Obilom (Nee: Igbozurike)

  1. Communities: The target/focus communities in the local government should be clearly stated and their names identified.
  2. Reflection of Dallas Resolutions: The draft should reflect all resolutions reached at Dallas convention upon which we are currently operating. They include the four categories of membership, the registration/membership fee, the name of the association, the areas of coverage for the purposes of receiving benefits, etc. Although they are subject to revisions but they are really binding for now.
  3. Monitoring of Activities: Updates should be semi-annually or as may be needed depending on the projects.
  4. Benefits Provisions: Provisions should be made to state a clear distinction of benefits accruing to members living in the US and benefits accruing to the target communities in Orsu Local Government Area. All potential benefits should be identified. Qualification and receipt of such benefits should be guided by membership category.
  5. Projects: A selection process and action plan should be in place for all community projects.

Chief Ken Ike

  1. Benefits Provisions: Provisions should be made to state a clear distinction of benefits accruing to members living in the US and benefits accruing to the target communities in Orsu Local Government Area. All potential benefits should be identified. Qualification and receipt of such benefits should be guided by membership category.
  2. Projects: A selection process and action plan should be in place for all community projects.

  1. Coordination/Partnership: Types of organizations or government entities (here in the US and at home) to coordinate and partner with should be identified. Structure and coordination mechanisms need to be stated.
  2. Finances: Dues/Fees and benefits should be commensurate with the membership categories.
  3. Banks & Signatories: The association’s bank should be selected, and the authorized signatories stated.
  4. Accounting: Annual or Biannual accounting should be required and published internally or as may be needed. Financial Secretary should be included for check and balances.

Hil Obiagwu
