  1. Flag Salute, Roll Call (Members), and Introductions (Guests):

The regular meeting of the Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council was called to order at 9:35 a.m. bySedalia Sanders, Chair.The Pledge of Allegiance was led by all present members of the Council.

  1. Approval of Minutes:

Discussion was open by Sedalia Sandersto approve theApril 27, 2017 Minutes.Albert Newton motioned to approve the Minutes.(M/S/C) (Gonzalez)

  1. ACTION ITEM(S):

a)Chair to appoint Nominating Committee of no less than three members

Chair Sedalia Sanders appointed Tim Blankenship, Lourdes Ramirez, and Eugene Mendoza to the Nominating Committee to review the first year of Officers and Council Members whose terms are expiring in September, 2017. AAA staff will coordinate with Committee to set a date to meet.(M/S/C) (Becerra/Cordero)

b)Council to set deadline tor receive applications for Disabled Interest vacancy

Liz Gonzalez suggested that Manuel Sanchez apply for the Disabled Interest vacancy. Sanchez stated that he is currently interested in continuing as an alternate. Deadline to receive applications set for June 15, 2017. (M/S/C) (Becerra/Cordero)

  1. PUBLIC COMMENTS:

Juanita Salas, IID Division 1 candidate, introduced herself to the Council and those in attendance. Salas informed the Council that she currently sits on the IVC Board of Trustees and has been involved in various community organizations. She wants to help move the IID forward and believes she is the best candidate to do that.

  1. COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Executive- Sanders shared briefly on the budget cuts being proposed by President Donald Trump’s administration.

Nutrition- Committee had nothing to report

Planning & Finance- Committee had nothing to report.

Legislative-Committee had nothing to report.

Social & Health Committee- Committee meeting was scheduled for May 22, 2017, but was not held due to the lack of a quorum. Cordero did speak with Sofia Gonzalez regarding AAA’s participation on the upcoming Census. Cordero requested that more engagement be done with cities and providers to obtain as much information as possible to educate the Council, Committees, and those involved in the senior population.

Transportation- Committee had nothing to report.

Prior to discussion/action on Action Items, Conflict of Interest Disclosure forms were collected from each Councilmember.

  1. PRESENTATIONS:

Karla Flores of the Area Agency on Aging presented on her duties as the Long-Term Care Ombudsman. Flores actively recruits volunteers to assist in investigations. This fiscal year, an Elder Abuse Conference was held in El Centro and was a major success. Flores often attends conferences and trainings to keep up to date with what other Ombudsmen are doing across the state. There are a total of 9 facilities in the Imperial County that she investigates and monitors.

Gil Rebollar shared on his duties as the Information & Assistance Coordinator for the AAA. He is responsible for coordinating the Senior Directory, Senior Appreciation Day event, monitoring the 800-510-2020 line, outreach, and data entry.

The informational items included: the attendance roster, security awareness training materials, providers’ quarterly report, and meal count.

  1. Unmet Transit Needs for Fiscal Year 2017-2018

On May 3, 2017, SSTAC monthly meeting was held. ICTC informed SSTAC on April 26, 2017 that SSTAC’s letter was sent to the Commission (ICTC) including our priority needs if funding becomes available. SSTAC has not received a response. Federal budget will determine funding.

  1. Senior Nutrition Meal Breakdown for April 2017

Congregate Meals: 3,736 senior meals. Contract amount 51,450 senior meals. Avg. senior meals served per day 197.

Home Delivered Meals: 2,611 senior meals delivered. Contract amount 30,250. Avg. Meals served per day 131.

  1. Ombudsman Coordinator Report for April 2017

Facilities Inspected:9-Vintage Village 1, Vintage Village 2, Casa Elite, Blossom Valley Manor, Heart & Hand, Imperial Manor, Imperial Heights, Valley Convalescent, AA & Cottage View Assisted Living

Number of Complaints Received: 17

Number of Complaints Resolved: 12

Total Number of Volunteer Time: 15.75 hours

  1. Information & Assistance Coordinator Report for March 2017

Outreach Activities: Participated in Escalante Plaza Health & Wellness Fair in Calexico

Number of Referrals: 37

Number of Follow-ups: 24, the remaining 13 either chose not to provide contact information or simply requested information on services in the Imperial County.

  1. Area Plan Update

Area Plan and Letter of Transmittal were presented on time (May 1, 2017) to the State.

  1. Area Plan Budget FY 17-18

Area Plan Budget FY 17-18 was submitted on time (May, 11 2017) to the State.

  1. Security Awareness Training

AAA Staff has sent out the link to the CDA Security Awareness Training. Everyone must take this mandatory training annually. If you haven’t already taken the training, please do so ASAP. We need your training certificates on file before July 1, 2017.

  1. Senior Directory Update:

Deadline for ads is June 26 with a print month of July. 5,000 Directories to be printed.

  1. Provider Claims

April claims have been processed for payment. Please submit your claims with back-up by the 15th of every month.
