Job Description – Part- time children’s worker

Responsible to: Team Leader

Aim:By providing positive opportunities, experiences and activities encourage, enable and empower children to make healthy choices in their life.

Working Model

Hours of work are 20 hours per week. A flexible approach to both hours of work and duties are essential. This role will primarily involve working children aged 5 – 9 years and will include working with and supporting volunteers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with children within schools, churches and the community to develop their trust delivering a variety of healthy activities which encourage, enable and empower the young people.
  • Meet the children in existing provision and through community outreach.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with other people involved in children’s work.
  • Search for best practice and network with others working with children.
  • Liaise with other community groups to further develop partnerships.
  • Be aware of all current developments as they affect children, particularly concerning issues of self-esteem, bullying, poverty and new developments.
  • Provide written reports as required by the Team Leader and/or Project Manager.
  • Meet regularly with the Team Leader to discuss current and future work, objectives, training needs and personal development.
  • Undertake duties as required by the Team Leader and /or Project Manager in accordance with the aims of the Machan Trust and in accordance with the Child Protection Guidelines.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties associated with the post as required by the Machan Trust.

Principal Terms and Conditions of Employment

General Terms

You are required to work throughout Ashgill, Larkhall, Netherburn and Stonehouse and the address of your employer is2 Marshall Street Larkhall ML9 2HD.

Salary and Holidays

*Your pay will be £10250 p.a.

*You will be paid monthly in arrears into an agreed bank account

*Your hours of work are 20 hours per week.

*Your holiday entitlement is 5 weeks (100 hours) per year. The holiday year runs from the 1st of January to 31st December.

*You are also entitled to the following public holidays: 1st and 2nd January, Good Friday and Easter Monday, both Monday May Bank Holidays, Fair Monday, September weekend and 25th and 26th December.

Incapacity to Work

*In case of incapacity you are required to contact the Project Manager before 9 a.m. on the first day of incapacity. The contact number is 01698 305674.

*You will be required to phone each day you are absent. Self-certification is acceptable for the first 7 calendar days and thereafter a doctor’s certificate is required.

Pension

*You are entitled to receive a payment of 7.5% of gross salary to be paid into your personal pension scheme.

*This money is only available to pay into an approved pension scheme.

Notice

*The amount of notice of termination of your employment you are entitled to receive is 4 weeks.

*The amount of notice you are required to give is 4 weeks.

*Your employment is subject to satisfactory performance and funding being available.
