Archetypal Figures Project Overview

As we read The Epic of Gilgamesh and study the archetypal figures, each student will select a story from Biblical Literature, Arthurian Legend or Greek Mythology to study and internalize.

MY STORY:______

ARCHETYPAL CONNECTIONS

As you find out more about your story, identify the archetypes, make connections to Gilgamesh and the other stories. Ultimately, ask yourself, “Why is this story important for our society? For me?”

  1. Archetypes in my story:
  1. Connections to Gilgamesh/Other stories:
  1. So What? - Universal Implications (why is this story important for society?):
  1. So What? - Personal Implications (why is this story important for you?):

AUTHENTIC PRODUCT BRAINSTORM

Once we establish the “So What?” and consider the importance of this story, think about how you can internalize and make your study of your archetypal figure relevant to you. What kind of product can you make to synthesize what you’ve learned?

  1. What are your likes/interests? (Do you like to cook? Line dance? Travel? Play Magic the Gathering? How could you turn your hobby into a business or career?):
  1. What could you produce that would complement your current activities and responsibilities? (Are you working on a service project? Do you have a job or extracurricular role you could incorporate?):
  1. What career or vocation interests you? (Want to be a lawyer? Business owner? Research Scientist? What product would someone in that field have to produce?):

PRODUCT OUTLINE

Once you’ve figured out what product you want to create in order to synthesize what you’ve learned about your archetypal story, list the steps you’ll need to complete in order to finish your product.

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

How are you going to present your learning to the class? Start by sharing a brief summary of your research about your character (not simply a retelling of the story the class is already familiar with). Then share how the story spoke to you, describe your product, and close with something your audience can take away and/or internalize (perhaps a challenge or closing though about the universal implications of this story. “So what?” Why should we care?)
