Arburg presents compact automation solution at the Plastimagen

  • Hydraulic Allrounder 570 C Golden Edition demonstrates cost-efficient part production
  • Automation:Multilift Select robotic system with teach-in programming
  • Complexity made simple with Selogica control system

Lossburg. From 4 to 7 October 2011, Arburg will present an automated solution for efficient injection moulding at the Plastimagen in Mexico City (Hall C, Stand 1113):this consists of a hydraulic Allrounder 570 C Golden Edition with a Multilift Select robotic system and other peripherals. This machine combines high-quality standard equipment with an attractive price/performance ratio. As an example, it will demonstrate the cost-efficient production of stacking boxes.Furthermore, a Selogica simulator will enable trade visitors to see for themselves the advantages that the Arburg control system has to offer.

“Automation is becoming increasingly important for cost-efficient moulded part production,” says Guillermo Fasterling, Managing Director of Arburg’s Mexican subsidiary, describing the situation in Mexico. The exhibit for the Plastimagen was selected with this in mind:a hydraulic Allrounder Golden Edition with Multilift Select robotic system – the perfect combination for cost-efficient entry-level automated production. This comprises not only the machine and robotic system, but also a complete production unit including guarding with electrical connections, conveyor belt and CE certification.

Cost-efficient injection moulding with the Golden Edition

At the trade fair, an Allrounder 570 C Golden Edition with a clamping force of 2,000 kN will produce stacking boxes weighing 259 grams. The exhibit will be equipped with a size 800 injection unit and single-cavity mould; the cycle time will be 35 seconds. The Multilift Select robotic system enters the mould vertically, removes the boxes and deposits them on a conveyor belt.

Allrounder Golden Edition machines, which cover a clamping force spectrum from 400 to 4600 kN, feature fixed clamping force/injection unit combinations and offer an attractive price/performance ratio.Their technically high-quality components include highly wear-resistant plasticising cylinders for a long service life and fast-switching valve technology for extreme control precision, resulting in high moulded part quality.Furthermore, dual-pump technology permits simultaneous machine movements and the associated short cycle times.Like all Allrounder machines, these are produced exclusively at the parent factory in Lossburg – with the mark of quality “made by Arburg – made in Germany”.

Robotic system fully integrated in the control system

The Multilift Select is available with load weights of 6, 15 and 25 kg, has servo-electric drive axes and is fully integrated in the Selogica machine control system. For the user, this meansonly one data record, no re-thinking required during programming and perfect synchronisation of robot and machine.

In order to remove and set down parts with absolute precision, the Multilift Select can be programmed via the Selogica control system’s teach-in function, i.e. it “learns” the positions to be moved to by means of manually executed steps. This effectively shortens programming times and changeover routines, while the handling sequence is more reliable overall and much less time is spent on training. As the control system is not located in the control cabinet, but directly on the robotic system, a Multilift Select can also be retrofitted on existing systems.

A hands-on demonstration of Selogica

Designed specially for programming production cells, the portable “Arburg Mobile Selogica” control panel with touchscreen offers practically the same extensive programming functions as the permanently-installed Selogica. It facilitates all set-up procedures which are not readily visible from the front. This includes manual setup of a robotic system mounted on the rear of the machine, as well as the injection moulding machine itself. On the exhibition stand, the experts from Arburg will use simulators to show visitors how to program the AMS and the Selogica control system.

Experts in automation

“At Plastimagen we will be presenting ourselves as a reliable system supplier for complete automation solutions,” says Guillermo Fasterling

emphasising that, as well as the automation solution package on show, Arburg also designs, implements and commissions production cells individually tailored to customer and industry-specific requirements. The worldwide range of products is rounded off by expert advice in all areas of injection moulding technology and a comprehensive service programme.
