ST. CLAIR COUNTY

The City Council of the City of Pell City met in a special called session at the City Hall on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. for the purpose of canvassing the votes from the August 23, 2016 Municipal Election. Present were Council President James McGowan, Councilmembers Jay Jenkins, Dot Wood, Sharon Thomas and Terry Templin. Those present constituting the entirety of the council, the following business was transacted:

The invocation was led by Councilmember Jay Jenkins.

The pledge to the American flag was led by Councilmember Terry Templin.

The City Clerk had roll call for attendance.

A total of twenty-two (22) provisional ballots were cast. The Board of Registrars certified that twelve (12) ballots out of the twenty-two (22) cast were acceptable. City Clerk Penny Isbell read aloud the acceptable votes cast by the provisional ballots.

On motion of Councilmember Templin, seconded by Councilmember Jenkins, the council unanimously approved the following resolution certifying the election results:

A RESOLUTION REGARDING THE CANVASSING OF

THE 2016 MUNICIPAL ELECTION RESULTS OF

THE CITY OF PELL CITY

WHEREAS, the general election for the City of Pell City was duly and legally held on August 23, 2016, as provided by law, and

WHEREAS, the municipal governing body of the City of Pell City met on this 30th day of August, 2016, a quorum thereof being present, at 12 o’clock p.m., and has canvassed the returns, and has ascertained and determined the number of votes received by each candidate, and

WHEREAS, the said municipal governing body has ascertained and determined the result of said election as follows:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Pell City, Alabama, as follows:

1.  That Bill Pruitt received a majority of the votes cast for the office of Mayor, and he is hereby declared duly elected to that office for the term beginning on the first Monday in November, 2016.

2.  That Jay Jenkins received a majority of the votes cast for the office of Councilmember District No. 1, and he is hereby declared duly elected to that office for the term beginning on the first Monday in November, 2016.

3.  That Blaine Henderson received a majority of the votes cast for the office of Councilmember District No. 3, and he is hereby declared duly elected to that office for the term beginning on the first Monday in November, 2016.

4.  That Jason Mitcham received a majority of the votes cast for the office of Councilmember District No. 4, and he is hereby declared duly elected to that office for the term beginning on the first Monday in November, 2016.

5.  That Jud Alverson received a majority of the votes cast for the office of Councilmember District No. 5, and he is hereby declared duly elected to that office for the term beginning on the first Monday in November, 2016.

6.  That no candidate received a majority of the votes cast for the office of School Board Member District No. 5, and that Jeff Jones and Sonia I. Dale received the most and second most votes cast for that office, therefore, a runoff election between said candidates is hereby ordered to be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2016, pursuant to the requirements of Section 11-46-20 et seq., of the Alabama Code of 1975, as amended.

On motion of Councilmember Wood, seconded by Councilmember Thomas, the council adjourned subject to the call of the Council President.
