Midterm ExamInformation for Students in Online Math& 146

1. Location, Dates and Times

As explained in the “Midterm Folder” block on Wamap:

-Put your planned location, date, & timein the “Midterm Exam location…” assignment.

-And if your location is Puyallup campus, be sure to make an appointment with them.

2. You Must Read the “Exam Instructions” sheet in advance

-So you know what to expect. The proctor will give it to you at the exam. You must sign this sheet at that time, indicating you understand what it says and agree to follow it.

-This sheet is linked to in the “Midterm Folder” block – in the item

“Exam Instructions …” Read it!

3. What to bring to the Exam– summarized

- yourself, well-rested and well-nourished

- a photo ID

- scantron sheet (the bookstore has them – image to right)

- pencils (the typical #2 type – for scantron) and a good eraser

- one page (8.5” x 11”) of notes (may be written/typed both sides) with your name on it, which must be turned in with the exam. Carefully create this page of notes – doing so will help you study for the exam.

- a calculator that does statistics (NOT a phone calculator, NOT a device with any internet access)

- NO headphones or electronic devices

4. What will the Exam be like?

- There will be a scantron part. You do not need to show your work, though you are welcome to write on the test paper whatever you want. Please fill out the scantron form with your name. Mark answers clearly. Have a good eraser in case you change an answer.

- The written part will require clearly written answers – with your work showing HOW you got the answer, showing your reasoning.

- The exam is designed for 2 hours, but you have up to 3 hours to take it.

5. Some ways to PREPARE for the Exam

- Thoughtfully create your paper of Notes to bring to the exam. Think through what is important to know, and summarize it in the notes. Do NOT count on these notes to help you much DURING the exam. Their value is that (1) you will learn a lot as you create the notes, and (2) they are your security during the exam, so that you can relax, knowing you can look up little things you might forget.

- Know how to use your calculator (e.g., for Binomial and Normal distributions). Before the exam look over the Summary of Calculator commands – it will be given to you for use during the exam. It’s in Wamap’s Calculator Instructions block, in the first item, the first link.

- In the Reading Assignments (RAs) look over any topics you didn’t quite get on first reading. You might particularly re-read the beginnings and ends of modules, where topics are summarized.

- Review the Quizzes and any of the homework that you had trouble with. They are in “Review” mode after their due date, so you can see answers immediately.

- In the Midterm block on Wamap there is list of Topics on the Midterm AND some Review problems (with answers). Try them!
