IMPORTANT NOTE: Participants must have completed the Train the Trainer Online Refresher program prior to registration for skills refresher. If only AE status renewal is due, IDPH instructor approval letter may be used as verification (contact J. Steber, RN).

Participants may not register after the course start date and time.

Course Type:This course is designed to verify a participant’s competency through the demonstration/performance of the selected skills as determined by the Department per established standards and guidelines.

  • “How to perform skill” instruction will NOT to be provided. All participants are to be prepared to demonstrate any and all of the Performance Skills as identified in the IDPH Performance Skills Manual – May 2009.
  • Instruction may be provided on the operation of equipment (bed, overbed tables, etc.);this instruction must be done prior to beginning the skill performance evaluation.
  • Failure of any skill on the third attempt will result in failure of the AE Skills Refresher course. Participants may not repeat the course on the same date as a failed attempt.

IMPORTANT NOTES PRIOR TO REFRESHER DATE; participate shall:

  • Provide verification of a Train the Trainer Online Refresher course completed in 2017.
  • Review and practice ALL 21 skills outlined in the IDPH Performance Skills Manual – May 2009prior to attending the AE Skills Refresher course; use of a current nursing assistant textbookis recommended for preparation.
  • Complete, scan and email the Approved Evaluator Skills Refresher Verification Statement which includes participant requirements and responsibilities to the course sponsor prior to attending. Email to .

IMPORTANT NOTES FOR DATE OF SKILLS REFRESHER; participant shall:

  • Arrive 15 minutes prior to start time.
  • Present photo ID to be admitted to course – NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Bring a copy of the IDPH Performance Skills Manual – May 2009andyour own nursing assistant textbook to use as reference.
  • Wear appropriate attire which will enable you to perform all 21 skills outlined in the Performance Skill Manual; this includes a watch with a sweep second hand.
