We work with over 4,000 disabled children and adults every year with physical or learning disabilities or acquired brain injuries. Whether it’s gaining new skills to live independently, rehabilitation after a brain injury or stroke, or improving independence through increased mobility and accessible holidays; QEF helps disabled people to fulfil their potential in life.

QEF is structured into three main services - Independent Living Services, Mobility Services and Neuro Rehabilitation Services. These are augmented by QEF Retail Trading and a family of smaller charities - MERU which provides innovative product solutions and Sutton Shopmobility and VASD which offer access to and loans of mobility equipment.

ROLE CONTEXT

At QEF Independent Living Services (‘ILS’) we aim to give young adults with complex disabilities the experience, skills and information they need to achieve more independent living. We are committed to ensuring personal dignity, autonomy, choice and freedom for the individual to become more independent and take personal responsibility, within a supportive environment.

JOB PURPOSE

To provide person centred care and support in the residential service for adults with complex disabilities that promotes independence, choice and dignity

To assist the Registered Manager with the day to day operational management of the service including people management ensuring compliance with all legislative and organisational standards

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist the Registered Manager to ensure the service continues to meet all legislative and organisational standards and good practice guidance through operational knowledge and effective quality management
  • Lead the staff team to create a caring, safe, responsive and welcoming atmosphere, promoting the rights, safety and welfare of the people using the service
  • Ensure that all aspects of personal care and daily living skills are undertaken in accordance with individual support needs and that dignity is maintained at all times
  • Ensure that each individual has a personal support plan which includes identified needs and support, positive risk management and future goals and aspirations
  • Assist the Registered Manager with the recruitment, development and management of the staff team to ensure high levels of performance and employee engagement, including undertaking regular supervisions and appraisals to elected staff members
  • Ensure appropriate and agreed staffing levels are maintained
  • Responsible for the safe dispensing and administration of medication, ensuring staff are trained and competent, procedures are followed and clear records are kept
  • Monitor financial transactions within the service, ensuring that all staff follow appropriate money management procedures
  • Ensure the residents participate in their chosen recreational and social activities, both within the home and in the community
  • Demonstrate continuous personal development with the staff team, ensuring that all required mandatory training and service specific training is undertaken within agreed timescales
  • Lead and participate in staff meetings, contributing to the continuous evaluation and improvement of the service
  • Active participation in the referral process including enquiries, assessment and liaison with external bodies
  • Maintain accurate, concise, up to date and timely records and reports for both residents and staff as required by the service in electronic and hard copy, whilst maintaining confidentiality as appropriate
  • Respond to and deal with complaints, concerns and feedback from residents, families and other stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain effective and appropriate communications across a wide range of people using a variety of media
  • Provide on call cover as arranged by the Registered Manager

QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING / ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE
NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent
NVQQCF Level 4 in Adult Care or willingness to work towards
Minimum of 2 years’ experience of working with people with physical and/or learning disabilities
Management qualification
Demonstrable levels of numeracy & literacy equivalent to GCSE (A-C) or NVQ Level 2 (or by test).
