I.  Purpose

The Regulations aim to encourage CHU excellent students to develop their worldview and learn different cultures of the world.

II.  Scope

Qualification, application and review of CHU Chen Li Ma Scholarship

III.  Responsible units

Department: Guide and recommend qualified students.

College: Review the qualifications of candidates recommended by each

department.

Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs: Review the qualifications of

candidates and assist qualified students to complete enrollment procedures.

Office of Student Affairs: Life Guidance Division is in charge of budget

planning and scholarship awarding.

V.  Content

Article 1 The establishment of Chen Li Ma Scholarship Program aims to broaden

students’ global horizons and encourage students to keep abreast of world

trends.

Article 2 Application qualifications and applicable items:

1.  The regulations apply to juniors who enrolled in Chung –Hua University after 2006 academic year.

2.  Scholarship recipients are juniors with conduct grades of 80 or above who have no records of demerit or suspended student status. Applicants’ academic achievements of previous 5 semesters shall meet the requirements.

(1)  Grades from previous 5 semesters’ are all ranked top one in the class:

Applicable items include tuition fees, return flight tickets and living expenses (see the attached table) for one year. Tuition and fees will be reimbursed for actual expenses and living expenses will be issued once every three months. However, the maximum will be NT $1000000.

(2)  Grades from previous 5 semesters’ are all ranked top three in the class:

(I)  There are six scholarship recipients every year, and one from each department. If the number of applicants exceeds the number of vacancies available, to choose 6 applicants, review committee will be held by the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs; the committee members include the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Vice President of Student Affairs, Dean of each department, and the Dean of Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs.

(II) Applicable items include tuition and fees, return flight tickets and living expenses (see the attached table) for one year. Tuition and fees will be reimbursed for actual expenses and living expenses will be issued once every three months. However, the maximum will be NT$350000.

3.  While receiving scholarship support, recipients do not need to pay tuition and fees but are not eligible to apply for similar overseas scholarship funds of Chung- Hua University.

Article 3 Scholarship recipients will take courses relevant to their majors in overseas

universities. After finish senior courses, they shall come back to complete

graduation procedures and then get a bachelor degree from Chung-Hua

University.

Article 4 After being approved by guardians, qualified applicants shall apply for the

scholarship in their major departments by February 15.

Documents required for application:

1.  Application form for Chen Li Ma scholarship and 2 letters of recommendation (the department chair’s letter of recommendation should be included).

3.  Transcript with rank in class

4.  Language ability certificate (English ability or Japanese ability)

(1)  English proficiency :

Minimum TOEFL-iBT score of 79 or minimum IELTS score of 6.5

(2)  Japanese proficiency : minimum JLPT N2

Article 5: Review

1.  To apply for the scholarship, each applicant should be recommended by their major department to college for review.

2.  Qualified recommendation list and information shall be submitted to the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs by March 1 for review.

3.  After being review by the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs, qualified applicants will be informed and assisted by the Office

to complete following enrollment procedures.

Article 6: Enrollment status and relevant issues

1.  Enrollment status and study issues of scholarship recipients should be regulated in accordance with relevant regulations

2.  Military service issues of scholarship recipients should be regulated in accordance with relevant regulations.

3. The courses and credits that scholarship recipients will take in overseas universities should be approved by major department in CHU before they go abroad. After they come back, credit certification and transcripts should be verified by department chair and submitted to the Office of Academic Affairs for verification.

4.  Scholarship recipients should get sufficient overseas medical (outpatient and inpatient) and accidental insurance by themselves.

Article 7: These regulations have been discussed by the Student Affairs meeting and approved by the Administrative Meeting; they go into effect following announcement of the President. Amendments will follow the same procedure.
