3.Old Business

A.Associate of Early Childhood – Kathleen O’Connor

Program Manager O’Connor updated Committee on status of the degree’s 29-credit hour core and ongoing across-campus discussions to bring degree into 60-credit hour requirement. Committee reviewed proposed degree sheet; some time was spent on Sequence of Courses document with several recommendations, including to add the “G” designation to HIST 111 and 112 and evaluate the MATH 120 as best choice, a matter raised by Dr. Chavez-Toivanen.

4.New Business

A.Energy Technology Certificate – Dr. Harry Sheski

Dr. Sheski introduced a Proposed Energy Technology Certificate specifically designed to help prepare operators for the Escalante Power Plant in Prewitt, NM. This 16-17 credit degree is still in the “selling” stage, but was unanimously blessed by the Committee.

B.CAF for the Bilingual Keres Program – Kathleen O’Connor

The Bilingual Keres Program, as championed by K. O’Connor with enthusiastic support from Las Cruces campus, is a cooperative effort with the Language Conservancy, our local Laguna community, and the college, and plans to offer a series of six summer-session courses in the Keres language. As a place-holder, EDCU 270 is in process of being reactivated, having been deactivated in 2010: hence the CAF. O’Connor will be instructor of record.

C.31 credit hour New Mexico Common Core – Dr. Harry Sheski

Dr. Sheski reminded the Committee about the NM Common Core revision, which is indeed a real thing, and urged all to become familiar with the new plan and particularly changes in their particular areas.

D.Re-write for ARP policy 4.68 – Course Curricula Changes – Dr. Harry Sheski

The Committee was apprised of policy and resulting paperwork associated with curriculum development, in general, for new, “new” degree and curriculum revision forms. This is an ongoing conversation.

E. NMSU Online Initiative – Dr. Harry Sheski

Due to time, this discussion was moved to next meeting.
