APPRECIATION IS TO HUMANS WHAT THE SUN IS FOR PLANTS -Frank Iversen

For the month of November we will be focusing on the ‘A’ of TEAMPLAYER; an appreciative student recognizes and is grateful for the individuality of themselves and others. This individual displays a sensitive awareness and is grateful for what they have. We invite you to brainstorm and discuss with your children various ways that they can demonstrate this important characteristic in their home and school life. Thank you for your support!

STUDENT-FOCUSED CONFERENCES & PROGRESS REPORT CARDS

KCoL Initial Observations for FDK students and Progress Reports for Gr. 1-5 students will be sent home on Thursday, November 9th.These reports present a snapshot of student progress and indicate student strengths and next steps. This is a great starting point for triangulation of efforts in student success; parent, student, teacher. They promote meaningful and on-going dialogue as to how to best support students to reach achievable goals.

All students; FDK-Gr. 5, will also be receiving a Student-Focused Conference request form; the evening of November 16th and the morning of November 17th are dedicated to these conferences. There will be no school for students on Friday, November 17th, as it is a Professional Activity Day. We welcome you to collaborate with us in our efforts to best meet the needs of all our learners.

YOUR SCHOOL COUNCIL HARD AT WORK PROMOTING STUDENT SUCCESS

AND PARENT ENGAGEMENT

Our first School Council meeting was on Wednesday, October 18, 2017. We had a small turn-out. Our School Council members for the 2017-2018 School Year are; Monique Carnegie, Finn Housdon, Lisa McQuay, Tracey Paiva, Ria Ramesar and Velma Robinson. Ria and Monique are Co-Chairs/Treasurers. The role of ‘secretary’ will be shared amongst our members. Last year’s School Council helped coordinate a number of Parent Engagement Events; e.g., Family Fitness, Student Move-athon and Family BBQ! Plans are already underway to continue fun parent engagement activities, with a focus on our upcoming 10th Year Anniversary Celebrations; tentatively scheduled for June 6th.

Your James Potter School Council would like to invite all of our parents and guardians to come out and join us at our next meeting which will be held on Wednesday November 29, 2017 from 4-5pm. This is a great opportunity to meet, exchange ideas and get informed about upcoming events as well as an opportunity to share your opinions and possible ways to continue our promotion of student success. It’s a great way to get involved and help to support our school success goals! We look forward to seeing many of you at our next meeting.
