MONMOUTH SCHOOL

APPOINTMENT OF DEPUTY HEAD

The Headmaster seeks to appoint a dynamic, successful and well qualified graduate Teacher with suitable experience to take a leading role in the management and Development of Monmouth School from September 2010.

THE SCHOOL

Monmouth School was founded in 1614, by William Jones, and is one of the schools of The Worshipful Company of Haberdashers. A generous endowment enables the School to provide superb facilities and an excellent academic education whilst keeping fees at a reasonable level. There are many scholarships and bursaries and the Haberdashers’ Assisted Places Scheme, which replaced the Government scheme in 1998, ensures that an education at Monmouth School can be available to boys who will benefit from it, irrespective of their parents’ income.

The School is set in the delightful landscape of the Wye Valley and much use is made of the surrounding countryside for expeditions and other outward-bound activities. There is a strong tradition of music and drama as well as of excellence in sport. A new sports complex was opened in Autumn 1999, a studio theatre in January 2001 and additional outdoor facilities, including an all-weather pitch in Autumn 2001. The Blake Theatre (500 seats) was completed in Summer 2004. Last year saw the completion of a state of the art sports pavilion and a new building and site for our very successful Prep School, The Grange. Other recent developments have included greatly expanded ICT facilities as well as refurbished boarding houses and classroom blocks. The Sixth Form has a dedicated Sixth Form Centre.

The senior school consists of 584 boarders and day boys (aged 11-18). The preparatory department has 111 day boys (aged 7-11). The Headmaster has overall responsibility for both the senior school and The Grange.

Monmouth School is enriched by close co-operation with Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls in many areas of school life, especially at Sixth Form level.
