Applying for a Job -10 points possible

See Agenda for Due Date

For this assignment, you will be applying for a job in which your professor is the hiring executive. The job you will apply for is a Public Relations specialist (see below).

Your goal is to submit the best resume and video presentation in order to get the job and beat out your classmates. Whomever the professor awards the job too will earn an additional 5 points towards his or her class grade. Here is what you need to do.

Step 1: Read the job posting below.

Step 2:Write a resume based on your past experiences that will help you obtain this job.

To aid you in creating the most informative, persuasive, and attractive resume possible, you may wish to consult this book:

Resume Magic 2nd edition:

Step 3:After creating the best resume possible, next create a 2 minute video to

compliment your resume content. The purpose of the video is to provide your

potential employer an introduction to who you are and to persuade her to give

you a hypothetical face to face interview; and ideally, offer you the hypothetical

job.

Step 4:Post your finalized resume and video to the respective Blackboard Discussion Board thread.

After all students have posted their resumes and videos by the deadline, then two things will occur:

  • Students will get to vote on who they think is the best candidate. However, you cannot vote for yourself. And, you have to give a poignant explanation as to why the person you voted for should get the job.
  • The professor will review each one to see who is best qualified for the PR Specialist position, based on the resume and video information provided.

In order NOT to make this a popularity contest and instead, evaluate candidates based on the information within resumes and video presentations, the professor will make the final decision. She will compare her notes to the final tally of students’ votes to make the final decision. The student who is awarded the hypothetical job will earn 5 additional points.
