Request for equivalence based on years of experience in research positions (where applicable)

If an applicant has carried out research work in another public or private institution or body, whether French or foreign, s/he may be granted an equivalence by the Head of the Institute, after obtaining the opinion of the competent review body.

The years of experience in research must have been accomplished in a public scientific and technological establishment or in an institution of higher learning, whether French or foreign.

The applicant is therefore asked to carefully complete the form summarising “Current position and experience in a research position” (section 5) and enclose the corresponding work certificates, specifying all start and finish dates, and any other document that will be useful for the review by the competent assessment body.

6. Presentation of the research activity

Maximum: ten pages.The presentation will comprise two parts:

  • previous research activities (maximum of 4 pages);
  • a presentation of the research project for development (maximum of 6 pages).

Your previous research activities and your project will be assessed on the basis of specific criteria. To enable access for the rapporteurs and members of the CSS to the information that will help them accurately assess your research activities, we invite you to consult the criteria indicated below before completing your application.The rapporteurs of your application will base their findings on these criteria.

These criteria are weighted according to the seniority of the candidate and the progress of his career

Quality of academic record:

●Reputation and academic excellence of laboratories used during university and post-doctoral training;

●Experience in research for development, and experience in working abroad;

●Motivation for collaborative work with and for Southern countries.

Research project:

●Originality, innovative aspect and relevance of the proposed topic, risk-taking, clarity of objectives, positioning in the national and international context, methodological suitability;

●Compatibility with IRD assignments;

●Feasibility of project (in terms of resources and other means, etc.);

●Collecting of original data;

●Accessibility to other disciplines and interdisciplinary, cross-disciplinary and cross-sectoral nature of the project;

●Consideration given to ethical rules and regulatory requirements: scientific integrity and rigour (statistical methodology, reproducibility, conflict of interest, etc.);

●Quality of partnerships;

●Consideration given to geopolitical and health risks;

●Potential impact on Southern countries identified and managed.

The following criteria are given special consideration for the hearing:

●Quality of the oral presentation, clarity of the supporting material;

●Command of the subject, motivation, relevance of answers to the board’s questions and level of ease in discussions;

●Scientific culture.

*Criteria more specific to CR1 applications. Indicate the level of involvement, where this is relevant (whether principal investigator, associate, etc.).

**Based on your area of competence, specify the visibility of your publications (co-publications with Southern countries, citations, journal impact factor, etc.) and, more generally, the impact of your output.

6.1.Previous research activities (maximum of 4 pages)

The applicant will take the scientific issues and place them alongside the knowledge stakes such as societal and environmental challenges, the methods used or developed, the difficulties encountered, the strategy implemented to overcome them, the responsibilities taken, the partnerships developed, the funding obtained, the outcomes and impacts, and so on (see criteria in section 6).

6.2.Research project for development (6 pages maximum)

The applicant will present the scientific field and the objectives surrounding the issue and the scientific assumptions, the value regarding IRD’s missions and priorities, the methods put forward, and will detail the expected impacts. (see criteria in section 6).
