AIN - Position Description

Position Title / Assistant in Nursing - CARE SUPPORT WORKER (Casual)
Position Function / Biripi Aged Care Australian Government programs are focussed on assisting frail and older Aboriginal people to maintain independence and remain in their homes for as long as possible under a restorative approach and living longer flexible service delivery model.
Reports to / Manager Aged & Community Care

Location / Based at Marrangbah Aged Care Facility
Department / Aged Care Team
Hours Per Week / Casual (on call)

Key Responsibilities / Strategic Direction and Vision
§  Assist in promoting Biripi ACMC to increase client access and improve client health and well-being in the area of Aged Care, while promoting enablement and client centred care within a cultural framework.
General Administration Duties:
§  Support carers of frail aged and disabled people in their caring role.
§  Support care recipients to remain living independently in their own home.
§  Act as a member of an integrated team of respite and aged care support staff attending to the personal, domestic and social needs of care recipients in receipt of services from Biripi ACMC Aged & Community Care Service.
§  To provide direct assistance to carers and care recipients in accordance with their own individual care-plans as per program guidelines.
§  To respect each care recipient and ensure they are treated with respect and dignity and given opportunities for making decisions particularly concerning their daily routines. This includes communicating in a manner that is appropriate to their condition.
§  Maintain up to date with Aged Care and Biripi Policy and procedures.
§  Observe the conditions of clients and report & document accurate changes.
§  Report and document any personal accidents or injuries as per Biripi Policy and Procedure.
§  Ensure safe and careful handling of client’s personal possessions as per Aged Care procedure.
§  Carry out duties in a polite and courteous manner at all times with both staff & clients of Biripi Aboriginal Corporation Medical Centre.
Meetings.
§  Attend all staff and team meetings.
§  Attend local network meetings as directed.
Training and Education
§  Attend relevant orientation workshops, etc as required.
§  Participate in appropriate education to maintain and develop professional expertise, skill and knowledge.
§  Attend ongoing training as required.
Mandatory Requirements
§  Be aware of Biripi ACMC complaints mechanism and administration procedures
§  Work as a member of a team in order to achieve the objectives of Biripi ACMC.
§  Confidentiality & Privacy is a mandatory requirement. Any breach of this requirement may compromise ongoing employment
§  Compliance with all policies and procedures of Biripi ACMC.
§  Report to the Aged Care Manager the next working day of any criminal charges & convictions
§  Complete and pass Senior First Aide Training
§  Complete and pass annual CPR program
§  Attend annual back care program.
§  Attend an annual infection control program.
§  Attend Fire drill annually.
§  Attend manual handling annually
§  Attend Child Protection Mandatory Reporting training.
§  Participate in annual supervision/mentoring sessions with Aged Care Manager or delegate.
§  Participate in annual performance appraisal with Aged Care Manager.
§  Undergo annual criminal record review as per policy.
§  Other duties as directed by Manager.
Workplace Health and Safety
§  Be familiar with the WH&S policies and procedures and be responsible for own safety and that of fellow employees, clients and visitors.
§  Apply WH&S guidelines and procedures.
§  Identify and rectify safety hazards if within ability or authority. Alternatively report safety hazards in the workplace.
§  Maintain a harassment, discrimination and bullying free workplace.
