  • All conference applications are to bevia your nstu e-mail e-mailed to .
  • All correspondence from the PD Committee will be via Pd nstu e-mail.
  • Conference funding for conferences that have an end date between August 1 and March1 - applications will be accepted beginning the first Monday in August.
  • 18 five hundred dollar grants per guideline timelines will be awarded on a first come first serve basis.
  • Conference funding for conferences that have an end date between March 1 and July 31 -applications will be accepted beginning the first (1st) Monday in Jan.
  • A waitlist will be maintained for conferences occurring between August 1 and July 31st.
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered.

ELIGIBILITY FOR CONFERENCE FUNDING:

All permanent, probationary and term teachers, who are Halifax Local members, may apply to the Professional Development Committee.

An individual can only be awarded a conference grant once in a two (2) year period for out of province conferences only.

All applications and correspondence will be accepted by nstu e-mail only. The applications are to be sent to the Professional Development Committee at . Deadline dates are outlinedbelow.

1. CONFERENCE FUNDING (AUGUST 1 TO March1)

For any conferences with an end date between August 1 through March1. Deadline -Friday before the September general or council meeting,

Teachers applying to the Halifax Local are eligible for conference funding up to $500.00

once in a two (2) year period.

Members must apply for HRSB- NSTU Article 60 Professional Development Conference funding before applying to this committee unless funds are depleted.

Pre-approval by the committee for conference funding is required.

Unused monies from this portion of the fund will be moved to Conference Funding

March 2 – July 31.

If an approved applicant cannot participate or attend a conference, they must notify the PD

Committee chair by e-mail one month prior to the conference date. Failure to do so will mean the next request willnot be considered for one year.

Conference application forms are located on the Halifax City Local NSTU website – complete

all fields on the form and send as an attachment by e-mail, to the Professional Development

Committee at .

2. CONFERENCE FUNDING (March 2 TO JULY 31)

For any conferences with an end date between March 2 through July 31. Deadline -Friday before the February general or council meeting,

Teachers applying to the Halifax City Local are eligible for conference funding up to $500.00

once in a two (2) year period.

Members must apply for HRSB- NSTU Article 60 Professional Development Conference Fundingbefore applying to this committee.

Pre-approval by the committee for conference funding is required.

All conference applications with end dates between November 1 and July 31 will be tracked by

the committee. Requests that meet all conference funding requirements but did not receive

financial support due to a depleted budget will be placed on a waiting list for later consideration,

in case funds become available during the fiscal year.

If an approved applicant cannot participate or attend a conference, they must notify the PD

Committee chair by e-mail one month prior to the conference date so that the PD Committee can release funds tothe next teacher on the waiting list. Failure to do so will mean the next request will not beconsidered for one year.

Applications for conferences that occur between November 1 and July 31 will be acceptedvia e-mail () commencing the first Tuesday in August.

The member will receive notification of approval, a reimbursement form through e-mail.

Original itemized receipts (no VISA or debit slips) must be submitted along with the reimbursement form and reference number no later than four (4) weeks after the event.

A copy of all documents submitted to HRSB.

A copy of the registration must be included as proof of conference attendance (if it is not being claimed).

A brief summary of the conference experience must be submitted before funds are released. This must accompany your reimbursement form and a copy e-mailed to the committee at

Under no circumstance will a conference be funded without being pre-approved.
