How to Apply

  • To be eligible for the Al-Habeeb Scholarship applicants must have accepted an offer of a place on the full-time MA in Multimedia Journalism course at Manchester Metropolitan University for entry in September 2018.
  • Please note that if you have not applied for this course and not received and accepted an offer, we will not be able to process your scholarship application.
  • The Al-Habeeb Scholarship is awarded by the Al-Habeeb Scholarship Awarding Panel on the basis of the requirements of the personal statement and CV. The Awarding Panel’s decision is final.

(a) demonstrate an interest in writing and/or debating about BME issues (giving specific examples of academic/writing experience where/if possible);
(b)provide examples of how to tackle stereotypes and myths about BME communities through journalism;
(c) suggest ways to improve communications between BME communities and host communities;
(d) describe how an applicant would be an advocate and champion for BME community issues during their studies and after completing the programme.

Terms and Conditions

  • The deadline for receipt of application is 12 October 2018.
  • Candidateswill be notified if their applications have been successful by the end ofOctober/start of November2018.
  • Applicants must have been offered and accepted a place on the full-time MA in Multimedia Journalism at Manchester Metropolitan University for September 2018 entry.
  • The Scholarship award will be processed for payment after the Scholar Agreement has been signed and returned to Alumni and Development and will be paid directly to the Recipient by BACS.
  • It is the responsibility of all students to inform Manchester Metropolitan University of any change in circumstances that might affect this application.
  • A student’s eligibility for the Scholarship will be automatically revoked should they fail to complete the full academic year or in the event that tuition fees are unpaid. The student will be required to repay the full amount of Scholarship funds and Manchester Metropolitan may take such action as is necessary to recover this amount.
  • Should a student leave their course due to extenuating circumstances, they will need to provide supporting evidence by email to . The evidence will then be considered by the University. The University may, at its sole discretion, pro-rata eligibility for the Scholarship depending on the student’s formal date of suspension/withdrawal.
  • By submitting an application form, successful applicants are giving their consent to the University to hold and process their data in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998. Your information including your name and photographs may be used in publicity by the University. If you do not give your consent to your data being used in this way, you must let us know in writing at the time of the submission of the application form.
  • The Scholarship award is made by the Al-Habeeb Scholarship Awarding Panel and all decisions are final.
  • The University reserves the right to withdraw or amend scholarships without prior notification.
  • Please note that all students are required to comply with, and shall be bound by, Manchester Metropolitan University’s Student Regulations and Procedures which can be viewed at: mmu.ac.uk/legal/#terms.
  • The Scholarship cannot be combined with any other University bursary, award, discount or tuition fee waiver except fromthe Manchester Metropolitan University Alumni Loyalty Discount on postgraduate course fees for entry in September 2018* (*Terms and Conditions apply as shown at:
