Application for Recertification of Certified Seed

MSGA’s approval of an additional generation of the certified class may be permitted by the Association stating that foundation and/or registered seed supplies are not adequate to plant the needed certified acreage of the variety, also MSGA must declare an emergency prior to the planting season. The additional generation of certified seed is ineligible for re-certification. MSGA’s approval is based on MSGA standards, the Federal Seed Act (201.70), and AOSCA Yellow Book’s Limitation of Generations for Certified.

Certified production will be determined from acres that were inspected by MSGA in the previous years and seed certification records. Availability of Registered seed stocks will be determined from MSGA’s records.

Please submit a letter requesting certified-to-certified production. The certified-to-certified request must be received prior to planting and must include the following information:

• Variety and lot number of stock to be re-certified
• Number of acres to be planted
• Description of emergency that has created the need for recertification
• Evidence of attempts to procure registered stocks
• Plan for propagation or procurement of registered stocks for future production
