MansfieldUniversity Faculty Professional Development Committee:
Faculty Alternate Work Assignment (AWA) Grant Application
These grants are for one purpose only: to allow the hiring of a replacement instructor so that a permanent faculty member can be reassigned from formal teaching responsibilities for 25% time for one semester to work on a specific project that will advance their scholarly development. Faculty conducting research that requires equipment or supplies can submit an application for such funds using the regular FPDC application by the deadline for the semester when the AWA will be utilized. Faculty-Student research awards that fund student research assistants are also available from the FPDC through separate application. All applications can be found on the FPDC web site at:
Successful applications will have the following:
- The project must be worthy of reassignment of 25% of professional time for a semester's duration work on a specific project that will advance scholarly development.
- There should be the realistic prospect of some tangible result from this reassignment, in the form of a traditional scholarly product that will advance the scholar's discipline (paper submitted to a peer-reviewed outlet, grant proposal submitted, public performance or exhibition of new work, etc.)
- Priority will be given to projects that include meaningful roles for students.
- Faculty who receive such awards agree to provide a written report of the project and to share the results with the campus community (e.g., via a colloquium or other appropriate presentation) when the project is concluded.
