1. Closing date

5. Commencement of duties

  • The appointee will be expected to commence duties as soon as possible.

6. Tenure

  • This is a part-time, permanent position working 15 hours per week (that, is, 3 hours per day).
  • The appointee will be offered an employment agreement with the Commissioner. The appointee will be asked if they wish to become a party to the Support Staff in Schools Collective Employment Agreement or to be employed on an Individual Employment Agreement.
  • Should the appointee indicate a preference for the Collective Employment Agreement they will be asked to indicate that they have nominated the NZEI as their bargaining agent and are therefore eligible to join this agreement.
  • Should the appointee indicate they wish to be employed on an Individual Employment Agreement, the details of the agreement will be negotiated at the time of appointment. The Commissioner has resolved to offer terms and conditions of employment, which reflect as far as possible those of the Collective Agreement.

7. Salary

  • The salary offered will be at a point on the scale appropriate to the appointee’s qualifications, training and experience.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Title:Truancy Officer

Hours:15 hours per term time week (3 hours per day)

Remuneration:Commensurate with training and experience

Responsible to:Deputy Principal, Student Engagement

RHS staff, especially guidance and pastoral care staff

RHS students and their families

Police, especially youth aid police and police youth worker

Youth Drug and Alcohol service and other youth counselling service workers

Public Health Nurses

Primary Goals:

1Receiving referrals from school families and other sources and reporting back on actions taken.

2Working with the school to assist with the early identification of students for whom school attendance appears unimportant. This work will include meetings with key pastoral staff.

3Working with families with a history of poor attendance to support school attendance for their children. This work will include home visits.

4Assisting students and the school to identify and overcome barriers to regular attendance.

5Liaison with, and referral to, specialist social agencies to support students and their families, as required.

6Assisting the school and other agencies to set up and monitor individual plans that ensure good school attendance – including assistance with the monthly ‘Rock On’ meeting of key pastoral and district stakeholders.

7Patrolling key areas of the campus and the district to identify students truanting from school.

8Identifying students not attending school and inform the MOE’s NETS service.

9Provision of data and information as required by the school and the MOE.

10Regular liaison with the school’s Attendance Administrator.

11Other relevant duties as assigned by the Principal.
