Course overview

Leadership (LDR) & Monitor Brigade Safety (SAF) are external courses facilitated by Riverina TAFE.

Leadership (LDR) is for members of the NSW RFS who have a significant leadership role at Brigade level or higher. The program is designed to provide members with the skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships and networks, and to manage and develop individuals and teams.

Monitor Brigade Safety (SAF) is for members of the NSW RFS designed to provide the skills to implement and monitor work, health and safety policies, procedures and programs to meet legislative requirements for work, health and safety.

If you successfully complete the LDR and SAF program you will already have completed five of the ten national units needed to obtain a Certificate IV in Frontline Management (completion of the Certificate IV in Frontline Management will be at your own cost). More information will be attached to the joining instructions. Note: LDR can be used for recognition of a core unit within Certificate IV in Public Safety (Firefighting Supervision).

› LDR – BSBWOR401A – Establish Effective Workplace Relationships

› LDR – BSBWOR402A – Promote Team Effectiveness

› SAF – BSBWHS401A – Monitor a Safe Workplace

› SAF – BSBRSK401A – Identify Risk & Apply Risk Management Processes

Course structure

› LDR – 2 1/2 day training course (All day Friday/Saturday to Sunday lunchtime) includes face to face sessions including group work and classroom assessments.

› SAF – 3 day training course (Thursday evening to Sunday lunchtime) includes face to face sessions including group work.

› Post course written assessments must be completed.

› Note: You can seek RPL if you think that you have the necessary knowledge and skills for these units, through Riverina TAFE.

NSW RFS entry requirements

LDR

› Have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to be able to access, analyse and communicate ideas and information, plan and organise activities, work with others and in a team, use mathematical ideas and techniques, solve problems, use technology and read and write a range of simple documents.

› Be prepared to complete take home assessments after the training

› Be an experienced (preferably Senior) Deputy Captain or higher.

SAF

› Have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to understand legislation, regulations, codes of practice, safety checklists, safety instructions, MSDS, WHS plans and to read and write simple documents.

› Be prepared to complete take home assessments after the training

› Be an experienced (preferably Senior) Deputy Captain or higher.
