Terms and Conditions

The Awards are made annually open to Non consultant grades .

Applicants MUST be a Member of the SMA to be eligible for support, and have attended at least one meeting prior to making the application

There are two levels of support one award will be made at each level each year.

£1000: Biomedical Scientists only and specifically intended to support formal further education. This may be funding for fees, a research project a Masters level degree, overseas visit etc, which contributes to the outcome of the study objective.

£600 for any non consultant grade to use towards any course/further study relevant to Microbiology.

Expectation is that successful applicants present the outcome of their study as a short paper at the AGM.

Applications must be original and entirely the applicant’s own work

The application must be received by the Secretary by 5 pm on the closing date 30th September each year. The Council members will form Judging Panel who will consider all applications and mark them on the basis of:

Assessors must score out of 10 each of the above components and provide feedback for the applicant.

Council Members are excluded from applying will declare an interest and distance themselves from the judging process if entries are from their own lab(s).

A pro forma application is provided with a maximum word count 1500

The Awards will be made annually and decision provided by Autumn SMA event.

Award winners will be announced at the annual SMA Autumn event
