Understand factors which can reduce the effectiveness of the decontamination processes eg correct dilution, correct time of application / Questioning
Recognise the significance of a medical device which is labelled as single patient use. / Questioning
Performance Criteria / Intended answer/outcome
Be aware of which disinfectants are Trust approved disinfectants / Describes main disinfectants approved for use in the participants clinical environment.
Demonstrate a knowledge of methods available for decontamination and when each are indicated / Can define sterilisation, disinfection and cleaning and can give examples of medical devices which are decontaminated by each process.
Demonstrate an awareness of COSHH / Explain which disinfectants , used in the participants area, require a COSHH assessment, PPE and being locked away
Perform decontamination in endoscopy as per policyand manufacturers guidelines. / Endoscopy:

Training programmes should be based on competency 21 of the national endoscopy competence frame work and competencies 1 to 6 of the Decontamination Competence framework (
Understand factors which can reduce the effectiveness of the decontamination processes e.g. correct dilution, correct time of application / Describe factors which reduce the effectiveness a high level disinfectant e.g.Tristel
