APAA Governing Body Meeting & Title I Annual Meeting
Minutes for August 29, 2017
The Meeting Facilitators were Mrs. Sheneque Jackson, Principal, and Mrs. Christen Hughes, Administrative Assistant.
The meeting began promptly at 6:00pm and Parents/Guardians and guests were greeted at the door by Administrative Assistant, Whitney Johnson. Everyone was asked to sign-in, given a meeting agenda, free door raffles, and ushered into the kitchen to receive dinner and drinks. Providing dinner is a new incentive the school is offering to increase meeting participation.
The membership was welcomed by Mrs. Jackson. She also led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance and offered a prayer for the assembly. The membership then enjoyed a performance by Ms. Simpson’s dancers. The meeting was then turned over to Mrs. Hughes, who presented the following topics via the PowerPoint Presentation: Student Handbooks, School Culture, Educational Programs, Pre-Weekly Reports & Homework, Uniform Policy, Textbooks, Standardized Diagnostic Testing, Academic Plans, Monthly Calendars, Attendance, the School Website and Facebook pages.
The Title I Annual meeting was also incorporated into this meeting. A review of this year’s Title I Activities, as well as the Student, Parent and Teacher Compacts were cited. Information on building effective parent-school relationships and implementing parent involvement was also included.
Elections were conducted for the 2017-2018 Executive Board. The following people were nominated, the motions were second, and voted as Board members. The 2017-2018 members are listed below:
President – Ms. Richards (Chapman & Lizzie Richards)
Vice Pres – Ms. Jackson (Chanler Jackson)
Secretary/Treasurer - Mrs. Alexander (Kamisha Lewis)
Staff Rep – Mrs. Peoples
Admin Rep – Mrs. Creech
There was a musical performance by Richard Chapman for the membership. Also, Ms. Johnson facilitated the free door raffle, handing out gift cards to all the winners. It was a full house and successful meeting!
The Meeting Adjourned around 7pm.
