AP Literature Meeting

If you do not do the summer reading and have summer journals for both books the first day of school, you will not be allowed to take the class. No exceptions.

You will need a two inch binder with tab dividers.

  • AP Syllabus, Exam Info, and Book List
  • Literary Reference
  • Vocabulary
  • Study Guides and Journals
  • Essays and Formal Papers

You must have a copy of How to Read Literature Like a Professorby Thomas C. Foster. (Go to half.com to get a cheap, used copy. This is an excellent reference book.)

You will need Post-It Flags for marking specific spots in your novels/texts (favorite quotes for discussion, literary term examples such as symbolism, significant passages that show connections for the underlying theme, etc.).

Attendance is of utmost importance. AP Literature is a college level course and will be treated as such. If you are not here, your work will receive a 0 for any assignment due that day. Many times if you are absent, you will miss an in-class assignment that cannot be made up. You should always contact me if you are absent (e-mail or voicemail), and plan ahead of time if you know you have to be gone for a school event. All formal papers should be done in Word or RTF format, so you can send it to me via e-mail only if necessary. Just as in college, you will be expected to hand in a hard copy. No late work will be accepted. Most of you have perfect attendance, so I do not anticipate this as a problem.
