Sommerpaket 2013 DUE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL 90 POINTS

The AP German exam is designed to test your language proficiency…your ability to use the German language to speak, listen, read and write. The very best thing you can do for yourself this summer is to grow your personal vocabulary and develop your listening skills.

The AP German Exam is a proficiency based exam, not an achievement based exam.

The College Board has made significant changes to the AP Exam and course beginning in the Fall of 2011. May 2014’s Exam will be the third one in the new format. If you know someone who has taken the exam further in the past, you cannot rely on their description of what to expect. The old exam is significantly different than the new one.

The New AP Course will be designed around the following 6 themes:

Global Challenges / Globalisierung

Science and Technology / Naturwissenschaft und Technologie

Contemporary Life / Alltag

Personal and Public Identities / Persönliche und Öffentliche Identität

Families and Communities / Familie und Gemeinschaft

Beauty and Aesthetics / Schönheit und Ästhetik

There are 10 weeks this summer – the weeks beginning

June 24, July 1, July 8, July 15, July 22

Jul 29, Aug 5, Aug 12, Aug 19, Aug 26

You should assign each of the six themes above to any of the six weeks in the summer. It’s best if you spread it out to keep your skills in use. During that week you will develop a list of 10 personal vocab words relating to that theme, and of course learn them. New words please. Not German I - IV vocab. Make them pertinent and helpful for expressing yourself on the given theme. Eventually our goal will be to be able to teach the words to the class without using any English! zB ein Restaurant. Das is wo man geht, um essenzukaufen. Man wählt von einerSpeisekarte. Das Essen wird von einemKüchenchef vorbereitet und von einemKellnerzumTischgebracht. Man mussnatürlichdafürbezahlen. But we’ll worry about that in September! Justmake sure over the summer that you gather pertinent vocab!

You will also view and summarize (auf deutsch) two video clips from

on the same theme. Record your information in the charts provided. This packet should be ready to turn in on the first day of school. It will be your first grade in AP German.
