ANU/ NEU Split Course Arrangement

The ANU and NEU have signed a split course agreement for two Master courses:

Master of International and Development Economics and Master of Environmental and Resource Economics. The split courses have been approved by MOET.

The courses will be over two years, the first year at NEU and the second year at ANU.

ANU will accredit the NEU first year course but will not provide any curriculum or teaching staff to teach any unit in this course.

The students taking the split course option would need to satisfy ANU academic and English Language (EL) requirements at the end of the first year at NEU. The transcript of the first year course completion will be sent to ANU for assessment against ANU’s academic requirements. ANU’s EL requirements are IELTS 6.5 with no sub-band below 6.0.

For a student to be considered by NEU to be eligible for the split option, he/she would need to get a high mark at the university entrance examination held each year in May and October. The minimum mark is 5/10 but the exam is competitive and would need to be higher. The exam covers mathematics, economics and English.

NEU Master level courses have three study time options: daytime, evening courses only, weekend courses only.

The applicant can choose subjects in Economics, Business or Management majors as 80-90% of the course content is the same. He/she would complete 10-12 subjects at NEU and another 2/3 subjects at ANU with a minor thesis being the main form of study.

For the first cohort under the split course arrangement the student graduating from ANU will be awarded an ANU degree only. It is the intention to award a double degree for subsequent cohorts.

Australia Awards Scholarship

An Australia Awards Scholarship (AAS) would be awarded only for the second year course at ANU.

An applicant for the split course would go through the normal AAS selection processes and if selected by JSC2 would be given a conditional award. The award would be conditional until when he/she receives a letter of offer from the ANU after completing the first year course at NEU.

The applicant would specifically apply for the ANU split course at application. Because the online application system (OASIS) does not have the code for these split courses, applicant can add the codes of the original courses at ANU: Master of International and Development Economics (course code (CRICOS CODE): 082308A) or Master of Environmental and Resource Economics (course code (CRICOS CODE): 082295A) at application stage. Then they can download a separate template on the AAV website for applicants who are interested in the split course program, complete the template and upload it as a supporting document for their application.

For the first cohort applying in the 2018 selection round the applicant for the split course should meet the entry requirements for a city-based university: GPA 7.0, IELTS certificate at application 6.0 with no sub-band below 5.5 and two years’ relevant work experience.

The conditional awardees for the split course would meet all NEU university fees (approximately USD1,000) for the year’s studyand travel/accommodation costs if he/she resides outside of Hanoi.

The applicant would need to submit evidence in the AAS application that NEU has certified that he/she meets NEU entry requirements for the split course. If the applicant has not sat the Entry examination and does not have the certification at the time of the AAS application, he/she would supply the certification after the May examination (results are out in first week of June) before the JSC2 meeting in July.

If the Split course applicant was awarded a conditional AAS award he/she would commence the first year course work in mid-October and finish the following May. His/her transcript would be sent to ANU and if given a letter of offer would commence ANU studies in semester 2 (in mid-July).
