ANU eTEXT Grant Scheme

ANU by 2020, the ANU strategic plan, calls for the vast majority of academic staff to be highly research-active, producing scholarly outputs recognised internationally. ANU E Press contributes by providing an internationally respected publishing house for ANU academics. Published works through ANU E Press support research-led education through material that can be used in teaching and that communicates the excellence of teaching at ANU.

As part of ANU by 2020, the ANU Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) is offering an ANU eTEXT Grant Scheme for 2015. This scheme has been established to support ANU academics to publish digital textbooks through ANU eTEXT—the open access textbook publishing imprint for ANU.

Proposals which have matching funding from Colleges will be preferred. The Scheme will provide ANU scholars with funds is assist with the production of their textbooks as freely available ebooks, accessible online or downloadable in .epub, .mobi and .pdf formats, and as print-on-demand paperbacks (if applicable). The funds may be used for copyediting, indexing, or the purchase of images and other copyrighted material, for example. Works will be published through the ANU E Press Office, however the books will be branded using its own trademarks ‘ANU eTEXT’.

ANU scholars interested in publishing textbooks with ANU eTEXT may apply for a grant in order to maximise the quality of their textbook.

Available funding / Up to $10,000 per eTEXT from the fund (those with matching College funding will be preferred)
In scope / The ANU eTEXT Grant Scheme will fund:
 the publication of a textbook that is complete or close to completion.
 copy-editing; templating; indexing; conversion; purchase of images and other copyright material, and publishing etc.
 ANU E Press will be responsible for the management, distribution/promotion/marketing and publishing of the eTextbook.
Conditions of Scheme / The ANU eTEXT Grant Scheme is granted under the following conditions:
 The proposed textbook must be published through ANU E Press Office, however they will be branded using the trademark, ANU eTEXT
 The proposed textbook must be published within 12 months, or the subsidy will be reclaimed and reallocated in the next funding round.
 If the manuscript is not published within 12 months, any spent portion of the subsidy will need to be repaid to the University.
 The author will be responsible for all ongoing costs beyond the Grant.
 Priority will be given to applicants whose manuscript is complete or close to completion.
 Applications must provide proof of support from their College Dean.
Time period / Applications are now open all year round, each application submitted will be assessed on an individual basis.
Proposed work must be completed as per the conditions listed above.
