ANTI-BULLYING POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
General Santos Hope Christian School believes that all pupils and students have the right to a caring, pleasant, safe, and healthy learning atmosphere. It is also the aim of the school to make its learners feel secure and protected. The school recognizes its significant role in promoting mutual respect, patience, and acceptance among its learners. The school does not tolerate any act or behavior that may contravene the safety and protection of any pupil or student.
Definition and Forms of Bullying
Section 2 of Anti-Bullying Act 2012 states that “bullying” shall refer to any severe or repeated use by one or more students of a written, verbal or electronic expression, or a physical act or gesture, or any combination thereof, directed at another student that has the effect of actually causing or placing the latter in reasonable fear of physical or emotional harm or damage to his property; creating a hostile environment at school for the other student; infringing on the rights of the other student at school; or materially and substantially disrupting the education process or the orderly operation of a school;such as, but not limited to, the following:
(a) Any unwanted physical contact between the bully and the victim like punching, pushing, shoving, kicking, slapping, tickling, headlocks, objects as weapons;
(b) Any act that causes damage to a victim’s psyche and/or emotional well-being;
(c ) Any slanderous statement or accusation that causes the victim undue emotional distress like directing foul language or profanity at the target, name-calling, tormenting and commenting negatively on victim’s looks, clothes and body; and
(d) Cyber-bullying or any bullying done through the use of technology or any electronic means.
Reporting Incident of Bullying
1. Pupils/Students as well as their parents/guardians may report bullying to the class
advisers. Class advisers after receiving the complaint should promptly endorse it to
the Student Affairs Officer for a thorough and confidential investigation.
2. Pupils/Students as well as their parents/guardians may also directly report bullying to
the SAO especially when the class adviser is not available.
3. Subject teachers and staff members may also report to the SAO any bullying
incident they have witnessed or bullying complaint they have received.
4. If the complainant is not satisfied with the resolution from the SAO, he/she may bring
his/her concern to the School Directress.
Disciplinary Actions on Bullying Offenses
Elementary / HighSchool1st Offense / Conference with parents / Conference with parents
2nd Offense / Conference with parents / Detention (1 or 2 days)
3rd Offense / Detention (1 or 2 days) / Suspension (maximum of 3 days)
4th Offense / Suspension (maximum of 3 days) / Advised to transfer
5th Offense / Disciplinary probation
Anti-Bullying Campaigns
1. The Anti-Bullying Policies and Procedures of the school must be discussed with the
pupils/students during homeroom period.
2. Each classroom must post an anti-bullying poster. The same poster will also be
posted in some areas of the school.
3. Peace Education must be integrated in Character/Values Education subjects
during first or second quarter.
4. The school must provide an Anti-Bullying Box where shy or afraid pupils/students
who are victims of bullying can drop their complaints or reports.
5. The faculty and staff members must also be given orientation on behavior
management and Peace Education.
6. The Anti-Bullying Policies and Procedures of the school should be given enough
emphasis also during the orientation session with the new students.
Implementation of the Anti-Bullying Policies and Procedures
The GSHCS Anti-Bullying Policies and Procedures will take effect on August 12, 2013.
