Anthropology Honorary
The faculty of the Department for the Study of Culture and Society and the present student members of our local chapter invite you to apply for membership to Lambda Alpha, the national Anthropology Honor Society.
Lambda Alpha membership recognizes overall academic accomplishment, and particularly performance in Anthropology. Membership in Society may either mark a professional commitment to anthropology, or simply an interest in the field and a commitment to academic accomplishment.
Membership in Lambda Alpha not only marks excellence in the study of anthropology, but it also encourages professional development.
Requirements for Membership: One need not be an anthropology major to be eligible for membership in Lambda Alpha. The local chapter is open to all students at Drake University. An invitation for membership is extended to students meeting all of the following requirements.
1. Completion of twelve hours of anthropology courses (as of December 2015)
2. Anthropology G.P.A. of 3.0.
3. Cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0.
Benefits of Membership: Membership in an academic honorary offers a public recognition of your scholarly accomplishment and a way to demonstrate those accomplishments to parents, friends, future employers or graduate schools. Your membership will be recognized at the Spring Arts and Sciences Honors Convocation.
Application Procedures: In order to apply for membership in Lambda Alpha:
1. Complete the form at the bottom of this page.
2. By March 11, submit the form with the membership fee of $25. (Checks should be made out to Drake University) to Sofia Turnbull in Room 323 Howard Hall. You will also need to fill out a membership card (available from Sofia Turnbull).
