Course Description: 604. Curriculum Design (3)

A critical evaluation of curriculum patterns in physical education, past and present, including development of a curriculum in physical education based on the recommendations of the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) Task Force for accreditation to meet the needs of today’s society.

Objectives

The course has three primary objectives:

  1. Define elements of a quality physical education program based on NASPE/NM PE Standards
  2. Have a basic understanding of the PECAT to help schools and its teachers to conduct a clear, complete, and consistent analysis of written physical education curricula.
  3. Create a “working” PE curriculum guide or similar document.

Grading

  • Since this is a 4 week short term summer class:Class participation/discussion is a major component of the course. Active and engaged participation is expected and will count for 60% of the final grade. NMHU Traits 1 ,2, & 3
  • An integral part of class participation will be the homework assignments anddevelopment of a curriculum guide or similar documentwill count for 40% of the final grade. NMHU Traits 1 ,2, 3 & 4

Academic Honesty/Dishonesty – NMHU Academic Integrity Policy

Because academic dishonesty in any form compromises the University's reputation and thus devalues the NMHU degree, it simply will not be tolerated. Consequently, students caught cheating, plagiarizing, or doing anything which involves trying to pass off someone else’s intellectual work as their own will be subject to disciplinary action. Depending upon the severity of the infraction, repercussions may include, but are not limited to: (1) a failing grade on the project in question; (2) dismissal from the class; (3) a failing grade in the class; (4) suspension or expulsion.
