SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT– June 24, 2010

Another Successful Year in RTM

Throughout the year we have reported on the numerous academic and athletic achievements of our students and faculty members. This has, indeed, been an outstanding year for us in many ways and we are always happy to celebrate. We are delighted to report that Penncrest has been honored again by Newsweek Magazine as one of the top schools in the nation.

According to Newsweek magazine, "Each year, Newsweek picks the best high schools in the country based on how hard school staffs work to challenge students with advanced placement college-level courses and tests. Just over 1,600 schools— only six percent of all the public schools in the U.S.--made the list." For the second consecutive year, PenncrestHigh School is included among Newsweek's Top High Schools.

Community Service Awards

We held our 15th Annual Community Service Awards Banquet on June 15, 2010. During this ceremony at the Towne House, fourteen men and women nominated by other community members for their service were honored. Each received accolades for the hours of service given in varied capacities to RoseTreeMediaSchools and students. Also honored were eight employees who were nominated by their colleagues for the “Above and Beyond Award.” These folks were selected for always doing much more than is expected of them and for rewarding us with their consistent diligence and excellence on the job. The ceremony was a tremendous tribute to the caliber of the spirit of service in RTM.

SLMS Construction

The SpringtonLakeMiddle School construction project is moving along on schedule and much work will be done this summer. This is so much the case that no RTM employees or visitors will be allowed on site during the summer. Dr. Jeuell and her administrative staff will be temporarily located at GlenwoodElementary School and may be reached by using the regular SpringtonLake phone numbers. We will notify parents when the grand return to the building takes place in August. Also, we have plans for additional community and parent information update meetings in the fall. We will be posting some photos on the web over the summer so parents, students, and community members may view the progress of the project.

End-of-Year Ceremonies

During the month of June many ceremonies were held in every building to culminate the conclusion of another exciting year at RTM. Each elementary school held an awards assembly to distribute certificates of promotion, and SpringtonLake had a Standing-room-only crowd for its closing ceremony to award certificates of promotion to all eighth grade students. And finally, The Graduation Ceremonies for Penncrest held on June 10, were outstanding. The student speakers were phenomenal and every detail of the event was well-planned to the nth degree. Many have said this was the best graduation year! We thank all of those throughout the district who went out of their way to contribute to these wonderful celebrations. These are some of the best memories that our students take away with them.

An finally, we are all looking forward to a very productive 2010-2011 school year and many plans are in the works over this summer. Our goals are set and we are fine-tuning all that we will be working on to continue on our path toward greater student achievement.

We wish all of our families and community members a safe and healthy summer.
