Prayer of the Week

Almighty and gracious God, we humbly turn to You this morning in prayer. Help us to trust you more. We seek your guidance to help us to live in harmony with you, our families, and our friends. Grant us your inner peace and watch over us, guiding us always with your hand. Help us to keep hope alive and to strongly believe in our miracle working savior, Jesus. Amen.

Stoddard Annual Meeting

The annual meeting for Stoddard Baptist Nursing Home will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Bethesda Baptist Church, 1808 Capitol Ave NE, Washington, DC 20002 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Please see Dr. Terrell for more information.

Baptist Heritage Day

Today, we join with the Baptist community in celebrating Baptist history. In Hebrews 11 and 12, we are reminded of a “cloud of witnesses” whose faith reminds us of God’s love and power. The list of witnesses includes each of us as witnesses of God’s mercy and grace.

High Tea Society

The fifth annual Civili-Tea will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Women’s National Democratic Club, 1526 New Hampshire Avenue, NW. Tickets may be purchased for a donation of $60 for adults and $20 for children 12 and under. Please submit names of students in grades K-12, along with a description of the behavior that you believe qualifies your student to be an Ambassador of Civility to . Jerome Fowler, the St. Paul historian and administrator will speak today at 3:00 O’clock. Please come and bring your friends to this service. Refreshments will be served after morning worship.

Youth Art Contest

The First Annual Civili-Tea Citywide Creative Expression Contest will be presented with DC Arts and Humanities Education Collaborative, Pepco and the Council of Churches. All entries must be submitted by Tuesday, May 20, 2014. Entries can be dropped off at the DC Collaborative, 1001 G Street NW Suite 1000W. The judging will take place at the PEPCO Art Gallery, where the entries will be displayed from June 12-14. The Gallery is located at 702 Eighth Street NW and hours are Tuesday-Friday Noon to 4 PM. The winners will be announced at a reception on Friday, June 13. Monetary prizes and certificates will be awarded. The theme is "share instances of civility in (your life) and express concerns about the incivility (you) see and experience." Admission is free.

Creative Expression Eligibility

The citywide Creative Expression competition will be open to Washington, DC, youth in 5th grade-10th grade. For the contest guidelines, please contact Judge Mary Terrell at or contact Charles Chew at 202-705-9059 for more information.
