Strategic Planning: What goals were set that relate to the Rho Chi mission? (Limit 0.5 page)

Community outreach was emphasized this year as the mission of advancing academic achievement served as one of the Phi chapter goals. The program was set to pair prospective pharmacy students with a current pharmacy student. The interaction served to help provide valuable information regarding the field of pharmacy to future students, all the while developing the teaching and mentoring skills of current students. Success of the program was gauged through surveys created by the Office of Diversity Affairs and Inclusion. With promising remarks thus far, the program will continue on in future years to ensure advancement of academic achievement is maintained as a goal. The program will serve as the foundation for which other goals can build upon by future executive board members.

Activities:

Please refer to appendix 1.

Financial/ Budgeting: The budget was approved based on the previous year’s financial report. This year, there more expensed incurred for the following reasons: a trip to the Rockford Campus was required in order to allow our initiation date to remain the same as it was already set with our speaker yet a conflict in scheduling occurred; for every family member that attends initiation dinner, the chapter lost some money as the dinner price was not set too high to deter lack of interest (this year >100 attended dinner while ~60 attended dinner the previous year [the number of initiates remained roughly the same]). Fundraising came by way of selling churros, which were profitable. Funds to cover the cost of our speaker were obtained through SAFC funding from the University of Illinois. Please see appendix 2 for the summary of the budget.

Initiation Function: Initiation was held on campus (4/9/15), UIC College of Pharmacy. Elections of the new eboard were held immediately afterwards. A reception was held at Rosebud’s on Taylor following elections. New initiates, faculty and family/friends attended each, with the exception of elections (just new initiates and faculty). The following day (4/10/15) Dr. Sandra Leal from SinfoniaRx spoke on her perspective of provider status.

Evaluation/Reflection: As the Phi chapter has been well established for years, many events are set into place and a timeline on courses of action already exist. This generates ease of implementation as the baseline is guaranteed to occur, thus allowing for innovation and implementation of new projects. The ability to implement community outreach and certain services was mired as they are already firmly established on campus through other organizations. Finding an uncovered service proved difficult yet was accomplished through the shadowing initiative, which has been considered successful by those who have reviewed the program. I do believe I was able to meet the goals I set for myself and the eboard as whole throughout the year. Looking back, some tasks I planned to tackle did not get completed as I spread my service thin at times with other responsibilities. Despite some unique challenges faced for this past year, I do feel it was successful and has set the next eboard up for success as well.

Other information:

If your chapter would like to be considered for the Most Improved Chapter Award, please complete the following form on a separate page.

Most Improved Chapter Award

Some chapters have been relatively inactive in past years, but current students/advisors have made great strides to increase the activities/projects of their chapters. Rho Chi has instituted a designation for the “Most Improved Chapter Award” to recognize such strides. In order to be eligible for this award, a chapter must meet all the basic chapter requirements requested within the chapter annual report. Furthermore, the chapter annual report, names of elected officers, and the name of the chapter delegate to the Rho Chi Society National Office must be submitted to the Rho Chi National Office by the respective deadlines for each of these items. The chapter must send a representative to the Rho Chi Society Annual Meeting. In addition, chapters must have “active” chapter status for at least 2 consecutive years (e.g., new schools must be in at least the third year of chapter activity).

If your chapter would like to be considered for the “Most Improved Chapter Award,” indicate the significant improvement(s) of your chapter below. Limit to one page.
